In the last round:
-Led Zeppelin upsets Pink Floyd. A lot of votes for Floyd in the beginning, but Zeppelin quickly turned the tide. 19-13
-The Beatles defeat the Rolling stones easily. Poor Stones. I still have Sympathy for the Devil.... 23-9
-Jimi Hendrix Experience defeats Bob Dylan without any trouble. I didn't think Dylan would get a single vote; cool that he made it this far, though. 27-5
-The Doors beat The Who in a real close match. At first, Doors was leading by, like, ten votes, than Who came right back to tie them, and Doors put them right back down to the end. 19-13.
Again, I'm using the ratio of votes for winner/votes for opponent to do the matchups. They are as follows...
Jimi Hendrix Experience vs. Led Zeppelin.
The Beatles vs. The Doors.
Shit. Holy fucking shit.
My votes go to...
Led Zeppelin- once again, I love Zep just way too much. I think Jimi'll take it anyways. Not to be biased, but...VOTE ZEPPELIN!
The Beatles- this'll be no contest. I love the Doors, but they're no match for the Beatles.
This poll closes on midnight (eastern) on monday night/tuesday morning....probably late.

I have to say that An American Prayer is what puts The Doors over the top. I mean, it is so incredible, plus The Beatles have Ringo Starr in their band, that has to subtract several points.

Hendrix and the Rolling Stones are the only artists that I believe have taken a previously popular song and truly made it their own.
Hendrix's renditions of "Hey Joe", "All Along The Watchtower", "Come On (Let The Good Times Roll", and many many others are so beautiful, it's almost like the man was born listening to these songs.
The Stones covers of Chuck Berry numbers are the only other example I can think of where I band really made a previously popular song their own. On "Get Yer Ya-Yas Out!" they perform two Berry classics ("Carol" and "Little Queenie") with complete PERFECTION. Lot's of people can play Chuck Berry, but nobody could play Chuck Berry as well as Chuck Berry. Except the Rolling Stones.

And to Wiggles, yes, they did play a lot of songs that weren't there. But they always....fucking....make it theirs. I don't mind covers when they're played that good. Long live Bonzo.
-------------------
FUCK THAT!
They definitely did NOT make something like "The Lemon Song" their own. You obviously have never heard the original "Killing Floor" by Howlin' Wolf.
It's one thing to play a cover, but it's another thing to take credit for someone else's work, make a large profit from it, and become acclaimed as "great songwriters".
The first two Zeppelin albums are their best, and there is almost no originality in any of them. Zeppelin would probably be one of my three favorite bands if it wasn't for:
A.) The whole blues-stealing thing.
B.) Plant's insistence on screaming ridiculously annoying shit during live performances. ("Does anybody remember laughter?", etc.)
C.) Page being pretty sloppy at times.
D.) Thirty minutes of "Dazed And Confused".
Even with all that shit, they are probably my fifth or sixth favorite group.

Well, Hendrix is basically a fucking god... I work at a college radio station (ucsc) and have access to unbelievably unfuckingcomprehensibly amazing live hendrix... several mind-boggingly good takes of his ol' blues songs...
but, I also scored the following album: Led Zeppelin, Live at the Texas Pop Festival, 1969. It makes me spurt cum out of my ears. Why, i was listening to it the other night (admittedly, under the influence) and began hearing Bonham's tingling smashes on the cowbells and high-hat make love to jimmy's (not jimi's) lightning-fast guitar strokes. In fact, as it were, Bonham was matching the sound of Jimmy's pick whirring over the strings with a counter-melody on bells and cymbals. I came... I came so many times.
Thus, I must vote Zeppelin, even though I feel the call is unfair and , perhaps, rightfully, Jimi should win (yes, I concede Zeppelin's loss, I am only voting for them as a diehard, zeppelin-1st fan must do).
Beatles.

Gotta go with:
Zeppelin - well, because it's fucking Zeppelin.
The Doors - Sure, the Beatles were around longer, but the Doors pretty much catapulted the darker side of music.

I can't beleive The Beatles made it farther than Floyd. The Beatles are way too poppish, they aren't any better as far as music goes, and certainly weren't as creative. People say they were creative, but I think they were just stupid.

Zeppelin: Stealing from classic blues musicians since 1968.
The Stones and Hendrix were beloved by the blues players that had influenced them, but Zeppelin would play blues standards, claim them as their own, and make millions.
One of the greatest bands? Yes.
The best? Definitely not.
Sloppy and self-indulgent? Yeah.
Bunch of assholes? Yeah.
