It was a little awkward, I guess.
I knocked, and the door opened.
She greeted me with wide eyes and a bright smile. I was led down a small hallway, past several dusty tapestries. The house had a uniform dimness, candles burned like beacons through the fog.
Her father was already sitting at the table. Her mother seemed busy lighting more candles.
The father looked over to me. His eyes locked with mine. I looked away.
I could make out a man standing sentinel in the shadow of a looming bookcase... I felt his eyes meet with mine.
My girlfriend smiled at me, motioning for me to sit down.
It was a little awkward, I guess.
