Shit. Piss. Fuck. Cunt. Cocksucker. Motherfucker. Tits. They may not be "The 7 Words You Can't Say on T.V." anymore, but they're still heavily frowned upon in society. They're baaaad words. But why? Why are these certain words bad? Is it the way they sound? No, buck and truck are almost identical to fuck, and you can say them. No, it's not the way they sound. Is it the way you look when you say them, maybe? No, no, that's just a stupid thing to say. Maybe it's the meaning, the weight the words carry? That seems to be the most logical reason.
But why do those words mean those things? Did some higher being hand them down and say "Here, here are 400,000 words. But these 7 over here, these are baaaad, these mean baaaad things!" No, that can't be it. It was humans. Humans put that certain connotation on that certain word. Shit is a bad word for crap? Who decided this? Where was I when these decisions were made? Well, besides not in existence.
But really, who decided that fuck was such a horrible word? I think fuck is a great word. It can be used in almost every part of speech! As a verb: "I'm gonna fuck you hard!" As a noun: "Look at this stupid fuck!" Even as an adjective: "Jesus, what a fucking moron!" Who are these people to tell me what's offensive and vulgar? Certainly not some dead guys. I'm pretty sure when worms are devouring your body, you've lost your sense of what's offensive and what's not. Let's look at a more common, seemingly less offensive word.
Fag.
fag - n. - A student at a British public school who is required to perform menial tasks for a student in a higher class.
A drudge.
Chiefly British. Fatiguing or tedious work; drudgery.
Now that's not very offensive. It's also a British slang word for a cigarette. Still not offensive. A shortened version of the word faggot.
fag•ot also fag•got - n. - A bundle of twigs, sticks, or branches bound together.
A bundle of pieces of iron or steel to be welded or hammered into bars.
Still, not offensive. But then the rest of the human race got a hold of it. Oh boy, a new word! It already has a meaning though. Ah, fuck the dictionary, let's make it mean a homosexual! Yeah, we'll show those queers! Ah, queer! Also, not originally used to mean a gay person. Just something strange or unusual. Makes a little more sense, considering most straight people seem to find gay people strange or unusual. But fag suddenly means homo? What? Who decided that? Again, why weren't any of us asked? We're speaking the language, we deserve a say!
Words are not inherently bad. There was nothing wrong with the word tits until someone decided there was going to be something wrong with it. Words aren't bad, people are bad, and they transfer that onto the words.
