Me and Gib were good friends. When I first got on Uber, him and I started to have frequent AIM convos, where we hit it off, becoming good internet buddies. When he came out with his "I'm Dying" post, I immediately talked to him about it. HE was acting weird, not really talkative, so I was getting very worried. But then, eventually, you know what he said?

At this point, I was really dissapointed in Gib. We argued back and forth over whether or not he should come clean. In the end, I promised him I wouldn't tell anyone. But now, I just think it's gone to far. I feel bad for people who are genuinely upset about Gib's "death". So here it is. The truth.
Gibberish is not dead.
It really was shenanigans.
He probably won't come back, but he isn't dead.
I just thought people should know. If you do come back and see this, Gib, don't even be angry with me. Just look at some of the tearful comments people left you, and see how "funny" your shenanigans was.

I've never stated on Uber, my opinion. It really took a strong biting of the tongue not too also. I knew no matter what I said, I'd get enemies here. That's not my goal, so I kept my mouth shut.

I find this comment incredible.
Faking your own death is misguided, immature and unbelievably insensitive - but is that any reason to wish cancer on someone? Jesus christ, get some perspective.
There's no shame in being duped by something like this - the people who reacted to this whole thing sensibly erred on the side of compassion and gave their condolences because, if true, its a pretty shitty deal. It's the ones flagellating themselves with grief for someone they don't know and the ones who were determined to pat themselves on the back for being the first to call shenanigans that you need to worry about.

I guess that's what honest people do. When you speak the truth, and live by the truth, it's what you assume others do, and the same goes when you're a liar - you always expect those around you to be liars too.

The same thing happened to me. I was in a car accident before the summer and hospitalized for a few weeks. I wrote a post just letting people know where I was and what had happened-- because I consider some of the better users on here family.
Of course, some assholes call me out on faking it.
Why would I fake being in a hospital? I'm Sideburns, if I were going to fake something, I'd do it on a much bigger level than "Hey, I was in a wreck. I'm in the hospital getting better.". I've cut off contact from several Uberers who are still giving me hell about it.

THe pancreatic cancer thing threw me because it was the way Bill Hicks went, and if he were any kind of Tool fan, which I suspect he was, he'd know that. It's a bit of the serial killer mentality where they taunt people with clues and then watch as they run all around them, not seeing. This gives the perpetrator an added feeling of euphoria and superiority knowing that he had successfully duped people despite what to him were deliberately divulged clues to the falseness of the claim.
The statistics were in opposition to the story. The lack of obit was as well, but honestly people, what are we as users supposed to do in that situation. There is no way to win. If you try to call it out you look like an insensitive dickhead. If you try to offer up your respects, you're viewed as a gullible dickhead.
The read sad part here is this: now if someone really dies, this whole cherade will cause people to be emotionless to someone else who is really in trouble for their lives...who is really in need of our support. It's just fucked up.
I refuse to let one immature little asshole numb me to the rest of humanity. We are NOT all the same, and there ARE people who deserve our respect in their time of dying.

There is a way to find out.... Find someone named Dan that is in a economics class that goes to Arlington High School in LaGraingeville, NY. Ask the (probably only one) economics teacher if a student from his class died. People at this school will know if a student has died. No question about it.
Can anyone verify that he went to this school? I tracked him through a statement he made about a teacher he once had (Italian teacher). Her name is on google several times.... In that school as an Italian teacher. Coincidence? I think not. It's where he goes to school, I'm betting 100%.
I honestly don't believe his story too much but won't rule it out. I just try to be somewhat respectful in case it was true, but personally.... I don't know him and it could easily have been made up.

No shit. Anyone who believes he is dead only believe it because they want it to be true so they can feel bad about someone they don't really know. Like stonedsilly, the main gullible dickhead, he has been hurt in the past (IE: MOLESTED) and now he is apt to fall for anything.
