Ok it's a very very simple idea... try to follow me here...
Hitler revived a country's economy.
He nearly kicked the asses of all the European countries.
He took power of a country by pure political genius.
He nearly killed off all the Jews.
He had one huge cult of personality.
What does this all mean? He was smart. Evil but smart.
So I pose one very simple question to all those people who go "OMGz YOUR LIKE HITLER! YOU SUCK LOLZ WTF!". Why should Hitler be an insult? I'll probably be proud to be compared to someone of his intelligence. I'm not racist, I'm not pro-war, I'm not pro-genocide. But the capability of a man can be seperated from his achievements. And he WAS capable. Before anyone bitches about him, are you able to achieve ANY of those things I listed above? No? Shut the fuck up then.

And no, Germany was not poised to become a great country no matter who her leader was. Quite the contrary, one major external factor for Hitler's rise was because the country was in the depths of shit. The unhappiness of the people took support from the moderate Weimer republic and passed it to the extremist Nazis. Hitler's agression might have fucked Germany up, but before that he was the one who helped it recover in the first place. If Hitler remained peaceful, yes, Germany was poised to become a great country.

His egotism failed him. Had he focused on one front at a time things could be much different. It was splitting up of his forces that screwed him. Africa, Britan, Russia. Do you honestly believe that if all the forces commited to russia were in france prepping for an invasion that the allies would have been able to land?
His lunacy was their downfall. Germany was poised to be a great country at that time regardless of who it's leader war. A second world war was all but inevitable, especially with the advances in weapons. The only thing that put a stop to great conflicts like that is the fucking bomb.

The two front war against France and Russia was what ultimately screwed him. But it was not undertaken because of ego. German military history had always been obsessed with the idea of a two front war. The Schlieffen Plan used during WWI was meant to cope with a two front war. No German leader can escape from that nightmare. It may be argued that the two front war might have been avoided due to the Nazi-Soviet NAP, but could Hitler rely on it?
Tsar Nicholas II was a pacifist compared to Stalin.
Stalin hated Nazism, and vice versa.
The Russia of 1942 was stronger than the Tsarist Russia at about 1914 due to Lenin's NEP.
Tsarist Russia went to war, what were the odds of Stalin doing so? Definitely much higher.
D-Day might have been stopped if Hitler had the full military might at Normandy. But the risk of getting fucked up the ass by USSR was too great. And besides, even if D-Day failed, the Americans were already in. It was a matter of time. D-Day 2? D-Day 3? D-Day 4? Hitler had to lose.

Battle of Britain was lost because of the strength of the RAF and the determination of the British. It was not a tactical error, Hitler HAD to invade Britain, period. Operation Barbarossa was screwed by the Russian winter, coupled with Stalin's Scorched Earth policy, which left nothing for the Nazis. The Russians were also wilder fighters than the Germans because they had nothing to lose. And it was not a walk in the park for Stalin either, go check the figures for Russian losses. As for the reason for the invasion of Russia, it was because of mutual suspicion after the Nazi-Soviet NAP, they hate each other. Hitler was sure Stalin was going to break the pact, and probably vice versa as well.

Anyway, the whole point of this post is not so much about whether Hitler was great or not. It's simply that he did far more than what most people can do in many lifetimes, and some never at all. People shouldn't bitch about someone who conquered Europe when they can't control an ant farm.
