Know the meaning of life? Write a couple paragraphs on the topic -- be a dick about it or take a serious stance -- and these guys will put you in a book. (via USAToday.com)

JW -
I submitted the post in its entirety, save the last part about coincidences.
Orange rules!
Did you ever get that Gmail account you were looking for? I have a couple invites left...let me know.

Zandy:
I recall reading that post. Did you submit that in its entirety, or did you shorten it down a bit? A good philosophy, to be sure.
The text in my original post on this thread is indeed my submission.
And that is totally awesome about orange being your favorite color. It's been mine for who knows how long, and has become as much a part of my identity as "Jinky Williams" is.
I have a uncle who's colorblind and he had his room painted a bright orange for the same reason. He also really, really loved carrots. He ate them to the point that his skin turned greenish from all the carrot coloring.
Stay orange.

Jinky - it was actually one of my more recent posts:

is that your submission below?
I think I recently discovered that orange is my favorite color...seriously. I just had this conversation with a friend the other day. I'm wearing an orange sweatshirt right now. I'm colorblind and orange seems to be one of the only colors I can see correctly consistently.

Thanks for showing me this.
Having a meaning necessitates our being created by an entity with intelligence, and that this entity created us with purpose.
Our meaning, therefore, is success in that purpose.
We must determine what we were designed for; what our mission details. We cannot otherwise truly and objectively determine whether or not we've been, or are being, successful.
If we've not been designed with a goal, how can we succeed? If there's no set objective, how attain it? How, without a guide or feedback from the creator, can determine if we are reaching our potential, or if we are heading towards or away from success?
Without an objective understanding of our design and purpose, the definition of "success" must always be subjective. Without an intelligent creator, we are just machines with no understanding of our purpose. We attempt to succeed when we don't even know what the goal is. In lieu of a externally-prescribed objective, we attempt to created our own, because it is necessary for us to have a goal in order to operate properly. If one is truly convinced that their life is without purpose, they will die.
Without an intelligent creator, we are just machines with no purpose. We cannot have a true meaning in life, because our life was not designed with a goal in mind. We are purely incidental. So, if we are to understand our lives as being inherantly meaningless, we must attempt to create meaning ourselves. This is the best we can possibly hope to do.
Stay orange.

The meaning of life is simple. The dictionary defines "life" as: "The physical, mental, and spiritual experiences that constitute existence."
It doesn't get any simpler than that. It's all about experience. Every experience we have throughout our lifetime molds us into who we are. Every one of us is different because no one shares all of the same experiences.
Married couples start to act similiar the longer they stay together because they share more and more experiences together. They take on eachother's traits and personality quirks.
Think about the person you are. Think about everything you've ever experienced in your lifetime. Those experiences made you the person you are.
The meaning of life is about learning. Learning from your experiences. As you get to the end of your life, your wisdom will help you make informed decisions. Our entire life is just one big learning process.
Now, if you think of our mortal lives as "school", then what are we studying for?
