This is the first fully functional half-life 2 deathmatch mod. There are console commands to play deathmatch in half-life 2, but that method isn't an actual game in itself. Unlike the in-game console commands, this mod allows players to run their own dedicated servers and also contains a number of noticeable differences.
At the moment this mod is in early stages of development. Below are the features that make up the mod so far:
-ALL working half-life 2 weapons, including both versions of the phys-gun (the orange, which can pick up most objects, and the blue, which can pick up or drag all objects as well as other players).
-Three 100% working maps from cs:source - de_aztec, de_dust2 and de_chateau. Mod is also compatible with the remaining cs:source maps that shipped with the game, but is not 100% bug-free.
- random spawn points for players (within a certain area) and static spawn points for weapons throughout the three working maps.
- the ability to run a dedicated server through LAN or over the net, as well as the ability to direct connect through IP, for up to 32 players.
- limited player skins and game scenarios. Currently players can choose to run or join a server of terrorists vs. counter terrorists (with half-life 2 weapons as either a deathmatch or plant/defend bombsite scenario), or combine vs. combine police (only deathmatch/team DM).
The following are the projected features of the completed mod (v1.0):
- 100% compatible gameplay with ALL cs:source maps, most of the larger hl-2 maps and of course user made maps.
- original skins
- New gameplay scenarios, such as CTF, improved Team DM and new objectives that involve attacking/defending a location/object.
- New objects for use with the physguns.
- Import explosive grenade from Half-Life 2, instead of the cs:source HE grenade model the mod uses at the moment.
- Improved lighting
- Original, pre-made voice commands (currently uses those from cs:source)
Since the mod currently uses maps, skins, sounds and weapons from the original Half-Life 2 and cs:source games, it currently only weighs in at 8mb (zipped). The mod currently isn't being hosted anywhere, so if someone had some webspace and bandwidth they would like to mirror/host it on, e-mail me at
shootthesun.at.gmail.com
to make arrangements. Also, if you know your way around the Half-Life 2 SDK kit and wish to contribute with maps, skins, game scenarios or objects, that would also be a great help getting the finished mod off the ground quicker.
Below are some screenshots of the three fully working maps within the mod.

Been having some people complain that the lighting looks fake. At the moment the mod uses the two white/blue light sources (that aren't shown on the maps). In the completed version the weapons should reflect the map's own light sources, rather than the invisible interim ones it uses now.

Probably, but I'm definitely not making it. I might import some TFC:source maps into this mod when they have finished converting the old TFC maps to new.

I didn't register it on steam because I downloaded my copy off a german bittorrent site. It didn't need to be registered, or even have a net connection, to play it. I also downloaded cs:source seperately off the same site, which works perfectly and on all official servers.

Funny how you upbraid me for doing Warhammer posts, and yet here you are w/ Half-Life 2 posts.
What'd you think of the new crossbow? I really don't like it - the range ok but the speed is abysmal - you'll never hit anyone with that thing. Also, what did you think of the the Steam registration? A huge pain in the ass as far as I'm concerned.

Well, when I get a host for the mod it will be free, and if you look around you shouldn't have much trouble downloading the actual hl2 game through bittorrent. This forum always has sources for bittorrents of hl2 and cs:source -

The name of it is physcannon_mega, but unless you are using the SDK you can't alter the physics of it anyway.

If you are in developer mode, you can just double the pull force from 4000 to 8000 and ten fold the tracelength, through the console. But if you are just playing normally, load the citadel map where you get the blue physcannon, then go to the console and type changelevel "Whatever map you want to play" and it'll load with the blue physcannon, you can pick up your squad and launch them into the sky. Type map * or maps * into the console for a list of maps/levels if you can't remember the name of the one you want.

I could contribute to some mapping possibly. I've been trying to find a working multiplayer mod myself for this awesome game.
