I agree L. BTW, ansel adams isn't art either. Sometimes the most simplistic, uneducated statements ring truest - i.e " I don't know about art, but I know what I like"
On the subject of the drawing - why is he angst-ridden? does it have anything to do with ethnic / cultural heritige? Is he unsure of his masculinity? is he masculine? does he pee sitting down?
Just wondering.

Bong-
"...are instilled in us as what art is, from a young age. When we see things that resemble what we've learned as "art" we classify them with art."
I do not agree.
And if I have to scrape something factual out of my ass to support my opinion, so be it:
Studies on beauty and what is seen as attractive have been done with infants. They're shown faces of all different kinds of people - from Gwenyth Paltro (sp) to Andre the Giant for example. Overwhelmingly the babies responded much more positively to the faces that were considered beautiful to most people's standards.
To me, true art is undeniable/in-arguable beauty. It can be dark, scary, light, fluffy, but it's beautiful nonetheless. It can be the colors chosen, the brush strokes, the detail, the light and the shadows... etc.
My point is, (and I dare to say, Yidele's might be) that although people have vast differences in taste, no one can deny true beauty - a work of ART - as a Michael Angelo masterpiece. That appreciation isn't "learned" at all. It doesn't have to be.
Do ya' hear?
:-)

I wasn't being funny on this post, in my reference about your sense of humor and the lack thereof has been in response to every other post that starts out funny and you add some dumbass comment about how everyone in that thread is a dumbass and you find no humor in it. I'm not a racist, I'm an Equal opportunity htaer, I hate everyone.

So... you call me a racist, and when I point out that you're an idiot, you were joking. Nice backpedaling, BungZilla, but it's not effective. In order to make a joke, people have to know that you're joking.
You tit.

We're not talking about Da Vinci of Michaelangelo. We're talking about a drawing that someone posting on the internet. I also doubt meeting someone that would not classify them as Art. Art may be obvious to you because you seem to obivously know everything that has ever happend about anything. Art is interpretation, dammit. Classic pieces of art like Da Vinci, Picasso, Van Gogh are instilled in us as what art is, from a young age. When we see things that resemble what we've learned as "art" we classify them with art. That's a biased perspective, but just because we don't see somehting that might resemble a classic artist, it recieves a label. I said, what you might think is art, I would probably call garbage. Take for instance Warhol, I don't consider an artist. So he painted a picture of a Cambell's soup can with different colors, big shit, but because it was revolutionary it did stick out and people will remember it. Just becuase it's not art to YOU doesn't mean it's not art. I think the drawing is terrific, and obviously the guy has talent and had to draw inspiration from somewhere. Thus to him, it is art. BTW, bungzilla, how clever, I never thought I would see the day when you would resort to grade school antics.
"Art" as defined by dictionary.com :
1. Human effort to imitate, supplement, alter, or counteract the work of nature.
-The conscious production or arrangement of sounds, colors, forms, movements, or other elements in a manner that affects the sense of beauty, specifically the production of the beautiful in a graphic or plastic medium.
He is imitating nature among other things. Thus Art, dickhead.
Score one for the gipper.

Listen up BongZilla - you can clean the lint from between my nut hairs with your tounge.
I don't give a shit how many "friends of Native American descent you have" - my great grandfather was fullblood Cherokee, and just looking at my family anyone can see the gradually lessening Native American characteristics (although my girlfriend is also 1/8 cherokee, so there's a possibility that recessive characteristics could make my daughter look Native).
On top of that, I actively participate in a Native American lifestlye with lots of fullbloods. I know this may be confusing to those of you I've told I was Jewish - I am ethnically and culturally both (at 3/8 Hungarian jew is my strongest lineage).
I go to sweat lodges as often as my ridiculous schedule makes available (not easy because they're usually in Pennsylvania or Jersey and I live in Maryland). No matter what else is going on in my life, every summer I am down in the mountains of North Carolina for the Summer Solstice, fasting for four days and sweating and contemplating with about 100 other people, many of whom are fullblooded.
So, you cum gurgling poop chute trooper, don't think you have the stones to call me down on what a Native American looks like. Aside from the puerile hypocrisy of stating that I'm a jerk for saying he looks like a Native American and then turning around and saying he looks Asian, you clearly have no fucking clue what you are talking about, Native American descended friends or not.
Go find a small rock somewhere, it might be interested in your opinion.

Yid, that's it. I fucking LOVE you sometimes.
The word/description "Artist" is so GROSSLY overused (misused) these days. I didn't have the "balls" to call myself "that word" for almost 20 years after I realized I was one because it's so poorly represented.
I come up with different titles to explain now... "fine artist" or "portrait artist"- those fucking mimes ruined it for anyone that actually has some real, god given talent.
Have a great weekend.

Wrong, bungzilla. Art is obvious. If you have to think about wether it is art or not, chances are it isn't. I don't know any who, having seen Michael Angelo's "david", raphael's paintings or da'vinci's work would honostly say that it isn't art. It does not require interpretation - interpretation is optional. Art is instinctive - like communication is. Contrived bullshit you see in the met. museum maybe IN YOUR OPINION art or not, depending on your interpretation, but it's piss poor art that needs an audience other than it's creator - i.e work of Maplethorpe or most of Warhol. Which is not to say that Maplethorpe didn't have some nice compositions or that Warhol couldn't originaly display campbel soup tins - but is it art? Do you have to ask such questions about ANY of the work of the dutch masters? I am inclined to think that photography cannot be art, stenciling cannot be art and for that matter much of what now passes for "performance" art isn't either.

I will stand by my point that Razor is an idiot. How can you look at someone and say he's a Native American? There is a stereotype about Native Americans that is off the charts. I have friends that have Native American heritage and have a lighter complexion than me and I'm a standard European Mutt. The drawing much more resembles an Asian and by Asian I'm not narrowing down that he is Japanese, Korean, Etc. I'm merely stating that he has characteristics resembling those of Asian decent. Tit.

Art is not obvious, someone can point to a pile of shit and say it's "Art." Art like, many things is interpretable. As well as someone might show me a sculpture and tell me it's art, and I'll tell them it's a pile of shit. Also with "art" people have different preferences, so yidele don't criticize this drawing so damn fast, there might be million people out there who could see it and say "wow, this guy is an artist." He just wants to see what people think, I don't recall this "artist" seeking approval for his piece.

Shit, I'm not saying much about myself when I say this - but it looks a little like ME. I'm going to go hang myself now. (I'll try to get my self-portrait scanned in sometime in the future so you can be the judge...
Seriously, BNL not bad. Are you left handed? Because I usually prefer doing profile or 3/4 views with the subject facing the right (so I don't smear w/my right hand).
How come all the rest of you haven't rated MY art? I have 3 under "I like to do draurings" posted. Bunch of buttheads! ;-)
