He rolled out of bed and looked at the clock.
"Fuck."
He layed his head back down, thinking how funny it was that every damn morning the first word out of his mouth is always "fuck" and it's almost never in a good way.
It wasn't that he was running late, or had to be up in a hurry. It was more the fact that checking the clock most definately verified the fact that it was morning. And boy did he hate mornings. Especially cold mornings. And this was one of those mornings.
As he rubbed his eyes and cleared the sleep away, his eyes lit up. "Maybe she's on?!"
He rolled out of bed and into his computer chair. Hitting the power switch, he looked around his room.
"Ugh. I need to clean this place up."
While the computer is booting up, he grabbed as much of the garbage as he can with two hands and made his way into the kitchen to put them in the garbage. Hearing the computer make its startup noise, he walked back into his bedroom.
Click. Tap tap. Send.
*wait*
The first pause is always the longest.
"'lo!" came the response.
"woo!" he exclaimed.
Some idle chit-chat followed, then she typed:
"I think I might be coming out your direction"
*blink blink* "what? you're coming to visit?"
The response: "yeah.. if i like it, i might be convinced to stay."
Cue butterflies.
Another flippant comment, and the subject changed.
After signing out, he thought about it more. What could that mean? A new life? A new start? All this crap that he's been dealing with could be gone? As a junior in college, he still only had a vague idea of what he even wanted to accomplish in life, let alone the mental and financial responsibility to impress a girl coming from far away, and enough to make her feel confident enough to stay? Yeah. Right.
Still... he couldn't help think about it. It would be... amazing. Singlehandedly the most amazing thing to ever happen to him.
Was he really ready to bet everything on the possible chance of a new life, with the possible chance of a new career, and the possible chance of a new love?
Well... you know what they say.
If you're not willing to bet the whole pot, find a different table.
