I walked away from the base of the cliff not knowing where to go. This island's not all that big and playing hide and seek for the highest stakes I've ever played is not an appealing idea but I have no other choice. As I walk I keep an eye out for any of the other contestants, and crew and soon find myself near the canyon we'd corralled the boars in. I walk over and find several still in the pen and then it dawns on me; if I sleep near them they'll settle down again and alert me if someone approaches. I find a hollow in the cliff walls just a few feet from our pen and pull some brush over me and try to sleep. I can hear the restless boars grunting and moving around but after a short time they relax again and I finally drift off to sleep.
I wake with a start and it takes me a few minutes to bring everything back together again. I hear the boars making all kinds of racket and then I hear footsteps. Maybe this wasn't such a good spot to hide; now I'm trapped. I wait, listening closely as the steps approach. I look out from beneath the brush I'd piled on myself the night before and am relieved to see Rachel. Not surprisingly she looks frightened and harried. She continues walking, looking back over her shoulder frequently and just as I'm about ready to let her know where I am I hear another person approaching. Again I wait as the steps approach the corral and this time it's a man I've never seen before. He's carrying a large rifle with a scope on it and is moving stealthily through the underbrush. I don't think Rachel knows he's there but to alert her to this danger requires that I reveal my location so I watch as he walks ever closer. Rachel has continued walking along the edge of the cliffs still looking behind her franticly.
The hunter raises his gun and I see him counting to himself as he focuses on his prey. He's just a few feet from my hiding place now and I decide that I'd rather die trying to save Rachel then watch him shoot her and then possibly discover me, so I shoot up out of the hollow and rush him at a dead sprint. He turns toward me just as I hit him and bowl him off his feet. I get up and try to grab the rifle but his grip on the weapon never relaxed and he held firm. He releases one hand to hit me and then I'm able to wrench the gun out of his hand but just then his fist connects with my face. I was in a panic now, I had the barrel of the gun in my hands but he was on me now trying to hit me again. As his fist came careening toward my face I grab his forearm and pivot turning with him and releasing the gun. I see it flying through the air for a brief second before the hunter hits me again. I turn all my attention on him and hit back. As he hits the ground I kick him in the ribs as hard as I can and then turn and then did the only thing I could think to do. I ran, as I looked back I saw the hunter scrambling to his feet with a snarl but I was already well ahead of him.
"I'll get you Ben, you can't hide but you just go ahead and run, just makes it more fun for me."
I glanced back one more time to see him picking up the gun and bringing it to his shoulder. I turn my attention again to where I'm going and see the cliffs next to the river ahead of me. With a last surge I sprint and jump, flying over the edge of the cliffs, into the water below and just as my leap took me below the edge of the cliffs I hear the crash of the rifle and the whine of the bullet skipping off the cliffs above me.
I hit the river below hard and the current immediately grabbed hold of me and began carrying me down. I look up at the cliffs above and see the hunter walk up to the edge. He spots me and again raises his weapon. I dive under the water as again bullets pass insanely close to me. I dive as deep as I can get, still being carried along in the current. A few more bullets cut through the water behind me; I keep swimming on the bottom for as long as I can stand before returning to the surface for air. I look back and see the hunter walking away from the cliffs. He either thinks he got me or has decided to wait until later. I think it's probably the latter but hold out hope that he thinks he's gotten me. The current continues its relentless rush to sea carrying me with it and I float on the surface watching for any sign of the hunters return.
A few minutes later I hear screaming and then the crash of the gun once again. Sounds like he got Rachel after all, I'm fairly certain those were her screams. I couldn't believe it. I took the hunter away from her and she either froze, and watched the pursuit, or he was fast in finding her again. I don't know how I'm going to make it through three more days, this is only the first morning and already I've been shot at and already one of my friends has fallen. I don't know for sure that he got her but can't believe otherwise either.
I continue floating until I spot a cave off to the side of the river in the very rock of the cliffs. I swim over to it and find the opening just big enough to squeeze into. I climb into the cave and wonder if I can hole up here for the next few days. It seems a fairly safe spot to hide; the hunter would have to come into the water to find me. The only problem is that I don't have any food with me, oh well, deal with that later for now I decide to try to dry off and rest for a bit. Hopefully my disappearance will help the hunter believe that he did get me.

You have done an excellent job of building the tension. It feels as if the pace has really increased.
Love this.

Before reading this one, I had to go to the bathroom, but I didn't want to waste too much time so I actually speedwalked so I could get back sooner.
That's when you KNOW you've got an addiction.
