By now, you surely know the deal...if not, welcome to my madness and newfound obsession. I am remaking the ENTIRE 'Nevermind' album, rewriting the music and melodies to all the songs, thereby changing them in some fundamental way.

If this is the first post you've stumbled on in this series, then I encourage you to follow me as I wreck each and every song on the album. I and my comrads in arms have already remade "Smells Like Teen Spirit" http://www.electrictoothsyndrome.com/songs/Smells_Like_Teen_Spirit.MP3 and "Lounge Act" http://www.electrictoothsyndrome.com/songs/Lounge_Act.MP3 and now I am proud to present "Come As You Are"...

http://www.electrictoothsyndrome.com/songs/Come_As_You_Are.mp3

Stay tuned as next I will be remaking "Something In The Way". It should be jazzed up a bit from the original... Eventually I plan on compiling them all into a full album, and will be GIVING, NOT SELLING, them away... For now, enjoy!

PS: If at first the links don't work, the server might be busy, try try again.

It's been a while since I heard the Nirvana version of this. Your rendition sounds like it's in a minor key or played on a different tuning - a nice little twist.

Don't get me wrong, it totally kicks ass.

oh, the line just repeats and ends on the 11th fret at the end of the solo.

This is the solo for this version at the request of CanucksFan. It's all one string, so it should be pretty simple. The slashes indicate slides up and down to the notes. The 'b' indicates a bend of that note, in this case the 13th fret gets bent a half step so that it creates the same note as the C# on the 14th fret.

Enjoy.

Wow, being so overtaken with school work and sports all I've had time and/or patience to do is to read Ubermadness, and somehow I've been completely oblivious to your music.

And it's incredible, I basically spent the last half hour listening to everything I could find on your site, really good. James Dean Von Santo was my favorite original work, although when I read the lyrics I started laughing my ass off. But seriously, I'd give anything to have your voice. I think my musical aspirations far exceed my actual talent.

I noticed in what I think is your first music post when you tried to get other people to share their bands work and it took a face plant, Death Metal Dude (atleast, I think it was him) mentioned GarageBand and had a song he made from it. I don't know if it's come up since then or if you've looked into it at all, but it's actually pretty awesome. I've made a bunch of stuff myself on it, some decent, some that are exactly what you'd expect from a 14 year old writing his own lyrics and singing. If you have any interest at all I can try scrounge up some decent tracks I have lying around and e-mail them to you.

Back to the point though, I listened to every minute of every song I could find and I don't regret any of it. I actually like some parts of your Nirvana renditions better than the originals, as impossible as that seems. Keep it up and keep me posted.

ETS- There are universities and colleges everywhere... I have about 30 applications out all across the U.S. and Canada. After that my preference would be aerospace/defense industry stuff, although I don't know how well I'd cope with supervision and regular office hours after so many years of a slacker academic schedule.

My younger brother's a drummer, I'm going to point him to your website because I think he'd love it.

Coyote: I live more in Western Kentucky...or, rather, did until yesterday. Now I live in Evansville, Indiana, which is even closer to Louisville, which is about a 2.5 hour drive. What kind of job are you looking for there and why if you do't mind me asking. It's interesting that of all the places in the world to move from where you live you would choose Louisville. Don't know how much demand there is there for astrophysicists.

lessthanfour: I'd like to hear something of yours. Email me something if you don't mind. Weezer is one of my favorite bands of all time. Sounds to me like your band might be something I would dig... I always thought that Weezer had a very similar sound as The Cars anyway, and your description of a poppy Weezeresque band with synths sounds like The Cars in my head.

Siren: If you have MSN, you can add me, but I don't use AIM. (I refuse to submit to the darkside by DLing anything pertaining to AOL.) Would be glad you hear from you on MSN or Yahoo. My names are just electrictoothsyndrome and electrictoothsyndrome.at.msn.com ...and sure, we can have lots and lots of sex. I loved Nirvana back in the day. Smashing Pumpkins, Pearl Jam, etc. Now I'm more into the peppy rock with synth and catchy melodies... Reggie and the Full effect, for example.

My band is like.. I dunno. Early Weezer with synth. So there you go.

You ARE a genius and you rule! I admire your talent and am jealous that you're in a band. So, basically you're a god.

Sorry to say I'm not British. Born and raised in the US of A, but I can fake a hell of an accent. I am, however, Irish so I'm fair skinned. So it's almost the same, see? And by "I want to marry you," I really meant "I want to have sex with you." So, no worries there.

By the way, you're dangerously close to getting one of these...

I'm guessing the Michael Stipe comparisons come in due to the presence of a Southern accent. You may not hear it, but us right-talkin' folk can hear it a mile away.

As for the "personal" and "lo-fi" things you've recorded previously . . . I doubt that will be a turn-off for the label I'm thinking of.

Siren: ONLY KIND OF GENIUS!?!?!? I AM INSULTED! :P

But yes, I did all of it except for Lounge Act. On that one I had help from the other guys in the 'band'... We just do studio stuff together. We don't jam out really because we don't have a drummer. I didn't do the bass line or the backing vocals on Lounge Act. Did everything else.

I know that sounds like the other guys don't help me much, but that's not the case at all. They keep me motivated, and they are both great writers...and Scott is invaluable for his technical know-how and engineering skills. We have a good time.

As for marrying you...we'll see... Are you British? If so, that's in your favor. I have a thing for the Brit girlies. ;) Being foreign in any capacity is a turn on... I love the accents. If you can fake one, that will be good enough...in that case, yea, I'll marry you sure! Can we have sex first, though? Just like to see what I am buying...

Why do I keep getting compared to Michael Stipe!?!? Not that I am offended really...I guess he's done well enough for himself. I just don't know if I quite see it. Ubersite is the first place I've ever heard that comparison drawn...strange.

Silvr: I am a bit skeptical of my previous albums and their ability to turn many heads... They were pretty personal, and not very commercial-sounding. Not that it's always a concern for an indie label, but the sound quality is a bit low-fi. I guess some would be ok as demos.

I am located in Kentucky, but in todays age of swift communication and transit, it shouldn't matter...

you can go to http://www.electrictoothsyndrome.com and hear some originals. There are a few there that are a bit heavier. We are working on other stuff right now that is a bit more laid back.

I have tons of original stuff. That is the tip of the iceberg really, and they are still in the preliminary stages in terms of mixing and mastering and digital editing. None of that has been done yet on any of them, so keep in mind they are still in the 'demo' stage.

The upside for any label is that I have my own studio, so they won't have to bear any expense in that if they like what I put out.

my msn IM is electrictoothsyndrome.at.msn.com or email me at electrictoothsyndrome.at.gmail.com either way.

----

whateafag: no offense taken. I mixed the vocals a bit loud on this one, I know. I was thinking that too. I was in a hurry to ge this done before bed last night and my ears were tired from listening. That will all be corrected in the final version. As for the 'more distortion' part, there will be some tracks on which I will use distortion and some I won't. Depends on many factors...my mood, people's suggestions (yours included), my determination as to what's best for the song, how much whiskey I have drank, etc...

just had a chance to listen to these. Exceptional job!

Let's listen to some original stuff ... these covers just aren't the same. Not that they're not good, but covers of bands that are so extraordinarily original and accredited won't sell. BTW, how are you mixing these? You need to turn down the vocals and use more distortion. This sounds like Weezer doing a indie/country version of Nirvana tunes. No offense, definitely a talent there.

I actually know some people who know some people . . . I might could try to pass things along, but I have to ask two questions first:

1.) Do you have any original stuff I could hear. I think they'd be more interested in that, no matter how interesting this stuff is.

2.) Where are you, geographically speaking? The label I'm "connected" to (in a Kevin Bacon sense) is a national, but still indie/local - if that isn't giving too much away about where *I* am from.

Circe: Thank you very much. You're opinions mean so much to me because they are infallibly genuine. I am glad you like. I will ship you a complete CD at the end of the project... :)

Teephphah: I totally agree. And I wouldn't DREAM of trying to recreate what that album was. It would be a futile persuit. From the opening chords of 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' to the final soothing repetition of 'Something In The Way', that album transports me to a time that will forever be crystallized and distilled in my memory as some of the best in my life... The feeling I get when I hear the album is one of bitter-sweetness. All I can do is tilt my head in wonder as it takes me back there to that time and place. In it I see the faces of old friends...feel the anger toward old enemies...and remember what it was like to grow up in the early 1990's.

I will make every attempt to do each song justice and treat them with the respect I feel they deserve, while at the same time changing them, not so they are better, but so that I can try to reveal another emotions that simply lies hidden within the notes original song like an murmoring enigma.
