I know this is fastly becoming a tired old subject so I'll try and keep this short.
I've noticed a huge patterm in the past couple of years which climaxed with Canada's decision not to join the Americans in Iraq. Canadians are becoming louder, more nationalistic and less intelligent. In our quest to distinguish ourselves from Americans, we've used Iraq as the basis. The sad thing is that in this country it has come down to the point where the average citizen can't say anything positive about the war in Iraq, or you'll be dismissed as an American, or an 'American-Lover'. I realize there are a few people out there who strongly dispute the war, but this is what it all comes down to in Canada:
HYPE, my friend hype. When it comes to patriotic feelings, what used to be cool in Canada was just being proud of Canada and the nation's achievements. Now, however it seems to be America bashing. My girlfriend goes to a lot of concerts performed by younger Canadian rock groups (I let her go with her friends I can't stand the fucking things). At one of these, with Billy Talent, the singer apparently rallied everyone in the crowd to raise their middle finger towards the U.S. embassy as an obscene gesture.
Also, Canadians who tend to go over to travel Europe tend to be far more patriotic than Americans. This is apparently because everyone is under the idea that Europeans love Canadians and hate Americans. I was in France and Italy last year and I did not make any extra effort whatsoever to bother telling people where I was from. No one was cold, no one assumed I was American and gave me dirty looks. If anyone does give you a hard time in the hospitality industry, tell them to fuck off and go somewhere else for Christ's sake. Different people are unwelcome in different places, but you can't generalize. In fact, in P.E.I. (an English speaking Canadian province) I found that people there tended to be outright nasty at times to French Canadian tourists as I observed on separate occasions. Then as soon as I strolled up they were as nice as pie. If somebody is a bitch, don't waste your time and money on them. They are not worth it.
I am an independent Canadian. I love my country, but I respect other countries and citizens of other countries. All I'm saying is if you hate America, at least have a half decent reason other than just going along with what everybody else is doing.

Bullshit. Canada is 70% fucking immigrants who don't give a flying fuck about Canada. As a concept, Canada rules; in reality, it sucks.
