I know this is fastly becoming a tired old subject so I'll try and keep this short.
I've noticed a huge patterm in the past couple of years which climaxed with Canada's decision not to join the Americans in Iraq. Canadians are becoming louder, more nationalistic and less intelligent. In our quest to distinguish ourselves from Americans, we've used Iraq as the basis. The sad thing is that in this country it has come down to the point where the average citizen can't say anything positive about the war in Iraq, or you'll be dismissed as an American, or an 'American-Lover'. I realize there are a few people out there who strongly dispute the war, but this is what it all comes down to in Canada:
HYPE, my friend hype. When it comes to patriotic feelings, what used to be cool in Canada was just being proud of Canada and the nation's achievements. Now, however it seems to be America bashing. My girlfriend goes to a lot of concerts performed by younger Canadian rock groups (I let her go with her friends I can't stand the fucking things). At one of these, with Billy Talent, the singer apparently rallied everyone in the crowd to raise their middle finger towards the U.S. embassy as an obscene gesture.
Also, Canadians who tend to go over to travel Europe tend to be far more patriotic than Americans. This is apparently because everyone is under the idea that Europeans love Canadians and hate Americans. I was in France and Italy last year and I did not make any extra effort whatsoever to bother telling people where I was from. No one was cold, no one assumed I was American and gave me dirty looks. If anyone does give you a hard time in the hospitality industry, tell them to fuck off and go somewhere else for Christ's sake. Different people are unwelcome in different places, but you can't generalize. In fact, in P.E.I. (an English speaking Canadian province) I found that people there tended to be outright nasty at times to French Canadian tourists as I observed on separate occasions. Then as soon as I strolled up they were as nice as pie. If somebody is a bitch, don't waste your time and money on them. They are not worth it.
I am an independent Canadian. I love my country, but I respect other countries and citizens of other countries. All I'm saying is if you hate America, at least have a half decent reason other than just going along with what everybody else is doing.

I'm a Canadian who has lived in the USA...Yes, there are assholes there, and ignorant racists/sexists/homophobes and all other manners of not-so-nice people...but it's no fucking different from here. I'm in Nursing school right now, and as soon as I graduate I'm moving back to the states, because I can make more money. I love Canada, Vancouver will always be home, but the states aren't so bad. The biggest American-bashers in Canada are the people who've had the least personal contact with individual Americans.

Hmm... to bash Americans is really to bash American Politicians... which is really bashing American foreign policy.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
No, it is to denounce American culture as well, such as American beer and food for example. Also, many anti-Americans generalize the 'typical' American as a gun-toting, right-wing republican with a cowboy hat and a weight problem.
Hell, America-haters even get touchy over how you PRONOUNCE and SPELL things for Christ's sake. Heaven for bid you pronounce the letter 'Z' like zee as opposed to zed up here. Or getting Canadian spelling wrong which adds a 'u' to certain words such as labor (labour).
Some of these people are bothered if you say 'soda' instead of 'pop', or 'candy bar' instead of 'chocolate bar'.

Seriously, I still cannot grasp what it must be like inside of the soul of a Bush supporter.

Pity, I thought you did when we discussed your second-to-last post(?). You disappoint me.

I think its becoming fashionable to do so up here because very few Americans are doing the job themselves. Seriously, I still cannot grasp what it must be like inside of the soul of a Bush supporter.

good work. It's nice to see when someone can comment on this type of issue without resulting to cheap generalities.

I don't hate Americans, I pity them. Look at their leader.
===================================================================================================
You can't pity them on the sole basis of their leader. Don't forget, about half of Americans chose not to elect him back into power.
A leader should reflect the values and beliefs of a nation, but often times doesn't whatsoever.
Democracy is a fat bitch with herpes, get used to it or move to China.

I'm not proud I'm not American. I'm thankful.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
as bleeding heart as this may seem...
I'm thankful you're not american too....
now toddle off and die limey twat

Obviously, you took this the wrong way and I apologize for not being clearer. I do not use the fact that I am not American as a measure of pride. I am thankful I'm not American because my country at the moment is not in an unjust war it cannot extricate itself from, and my country is also not hammering up trillions of dollars of debt to give tax breaks to those who least need it. I'm not saying the American people are stupid (though sometimes the way your countrymen act it's hard not to believe-the same can go for Canadians, but nobody pays attention to us), I am just saying that fortunately, as a Canadian, I do not have to live with these things happening in my country.
As for matters of sovereignty for both the US and Canada, I think all worries on this should be bunk because in 10 years the Chinese are going to take us all over anyway.

Great post. Most canadians pride themselves of not being americans. Some canadians even told "why don't you move to the fucking US if you love them so much" just because I said they weren't only bad.

What the hell are you talking about, you fucking crank? Half your posts are typical bandwagon anti-US bullshit. Listen, I know you're a king hypocrite and a follower - but for fuck's sake don't make it so blatantly obvious - you still have ass to kiss.

Naw, I kid because I love. I was going to bash this, but you seem to be level-headed and there were no outstanding grammatical errors so +1 for you, eh?
