I was trying to think of something to post today when it suddenly hit me, I would talk about homeless people.

Homeless people or 'bums' as some people call them generally get a bad rap. This is unfair. Not only are they nice but they are kind and they can give some good advice. They also have some pretty cool stories to tell. Tonight I am volunteering at a local shelter. I am going to socialize with them. I did this a few weeks ago for the first time and I met some interesting people. After the meal but before the bingo I was talking to a man who was originally the maritimes (eastern Canada). He told me that he had moved to Toronto and gave guitar lessons. He encouraged making your own songs and not just learning ones that other people wrote. He also told me that he had been on the Vision Network. A Christian Television station here in Toronto. He found it amazing that people still recognized him twenty years later. I found that amazing. He also told me that he was saving money so that he could move back east with his wife. He said that they are doing pretty well so far.

I thought that it was very interesting how much he told me in such a short time (maybe 10 - 15 mins). He pointed out a couple who he said lived well but still came to the shelter for the free food and the chance of winning a gift certificate to McDonalds (that night's prize for bingo). He was extremely kind man and I am hoping that he will be there tonight so that I can talk to him again.

Homeless people are very nice people, next time that you see someone asking for money, don't just walk bye, at least say "Hi". That could mean more to them that $100, someone cared enough to stop and talk to them instead of just ignoring them. Imagine how they must feel, every day, begging for money, remember your teenage years when you always felt ignored? They must go through that everyday.

Be kind, have a heart. Say "hi". It will be worth it.
