The NHLPA and the league have agreed to meet in Toronto next week to try and sort out the issues surrounding this lockout. Please post your feelings towards the lockout and any solutions you see.

You want to see some "old time hockey" action, just check out the QSPHL.
I think it stands for the Quebec Senior Professional Hockey league and it's where old goons go to live out their professional hockey careers.
An average of 6 fights a night.

The end is NOT near...unless you count the end of the season, which at this point, no matter how much I miss hockey...I have no interest at all in a 36 game season and playoffs. It would be fucking stupid.
I hope the league stays dark for three years and see how much fun the players have playing in Europe and the ECHL.

Fuck the NHL.
Seriously.
Billionaires: We're losing money in a venture that in general isn't a money making machine unless you live in a Top 5 market.
Millionaires: What do you mean I can only make a minimum of 1.1 mil? I want 1.5, bitch!
Fans: I like cotton candy...

Can't wait anymore... OHL games just aren't the same. Binghampton vs St. John's has been the best game I've seen..
I'm now cheering for the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds. They play like they want to.
I miss the NHL calibre play, but the spirit is much more prominant in the juniors.

It's hilarious that the players think they should be paid like baseball or football players, even though their league draws as much revenue as Major League Soccer.
Maybe if people started going to games, and the games were on television (roughly translated to: "Maybe if a large number of people actually gave a shit about this league, so much that they're willing to pay to watch it,") then the players would be worth what they're asking for.
Until then, fuck any league so corrupt that the Hartford Whalers could be stolen away from their home state.

The NHLPA needs to just suck it up and allow a salary cap to be put in place.

Hockey does in fact suck.
===================
in 2020 they will merge with the MLB, the amount of suck between the two factions of greed will create a black hole and destroy the universe.

+2 for hockey, but no, the end of the lockout is not in sight. The players are taking the first step towards their eventual cave (they will cave first) in proposing another CBA but the NHLPA and Goodenow will last a season before they actually give in, especially considering that we are only a few weeks away from the season being called.
I think it's a shame that the players are going to cave though, as I am pretty well entrenched on their side of this debate. I share a good deal of animosity for both sides (I miss my hockey damnit), but I am completely anti-cap in any sport, and the players have already made concessions that would help (admittedly not enough, but that's where compromise comes in) to drive down player salaries. The owners haven't budged. There is a compromise to be reached and the owners refuse to take their steps to the middle without killing a full season first. This is especailly evident by their lack of serious proposal and the complete dismissal of the NHLPA's first proposal, and soon to be the dismissal of their second proposal.

You're not going to get that great of a response to a hockey related post on Uber.
I am this close to boycotting the season anyways because I am so pissed off at the players for demanding so much money... some sort of cap is needed to make the league sustainable.

granted hockey doesn't have the numbers of fans that a bigger professional sport such as football or baseball has, but it is right up there with basketball. the fleet center is nearly always full when the bruins play, and most americans in the northern half of the cou ntry enjoy hockey.
its a problem. greed vs greed. greed doesn't win. someone has to take a loss, whether it be the players, or the owners, and its unfortunate that the fans are the ones who suffer.
professional athletes are extremely fortunate to have the career they do, and although they may not desrve the millions of dollars a year they get, they get what hte market can handle. if people stopped paying 100 dollars a ticket for baseball games all across the country, baseball players would eventually get paid less. salaries are determined by seats. granted there is more income from advertising, etc, but the majority of it comes from the fans. seats, merchandise, etc.
but as long as we keep filling the seats, at the prices they sell the tickets for, salaries will remain the same.
i think eventually the strike will be good for hockey, as the most recent baseball strike and the basketball strike were for their respective sports -- now both sports are seeing fan base growth.
bottom line - nhl player salaries need to go down to accomodate the smaller fan base. thats all there is to it.

honestly the problem with hockey is that its gotten to basically be an arogant little bitch stepchild. Im it some how thinks that it compares to Baseball or Basketball in terms of popularity when really in fact 98% of the country couldnt give a shit, the only reason the baseball strike of 94 and the recent basketball lockout ended was because of the fans BOTTOM LINE no matter what anyone may say it was because of the fans chanting to play, well hockey doesnt have the fan base of these other sports and is pretty much fucking itself into the ground.

I have found a new love for minor league hockey thanks to these greedy, slimy pieces of NHL shit. I have no respect for anyone who earns over a cool million a year who gets a long summer, gets paid to play a sport and complains on top of everything else. Fuck 'em.

The owners are broke. They need to limit costs.
The players can't have that. That'd mean the NHLPA lost. And those competitive bastards would rather sink the ship than float on as losers.

how do you NOT know what the NHL is? its the National Hockey League. It is composed of teams from around North America nd it is currently in a lockout (since Sept. 15, 2004) because the Collective Bargaining Agreement expired.

I hope the league dies. I do. Let those greedy players feel what it's like to lose your job and retrain. Let those owners know what happens when lawyers and union leaders take control of a truly beautiful and honourable game. Give the glory back to the amateurs and the kids. I love hockey, and I love my home team. Whether the league survives or not, I will be happy.
