Okay, so I was like totally sitting in my living room trying to think, when my roommate comes in the room. Ever heard of that movie "My Big Fat Greek Wedding"? Well I live in this movie called "My Big Fat Gay Roommate".
So there I was, trying to think when MBFGR comes in wearing nothing but boxers, and pops in the DVD "The Testicles of Riddick", his favorite gay porno. Then he started jerking it through the pee-pee hole in his boxers. This didn't distract me from my thoughts though - I don't much care for porn.
But it did push my thinking in a generally negative direction.
I started to think about the human mind and body. I concluded that the body runs strictly by animal instincts, while the mind is the only part of us that is truly human. What I mean to say is that without the mind, the body is no better than animal. Then I realized that this is probably common sense. But I had never really come to that conclusion based on my own free train of thought until now.
Somebody call the NTSB. This train has derailed.
Then I thought about people who like to call me cynical. They use the word for no other reason than for the fact that they think they sound smart using a word like cynical. Or maybe it is because I fit the definition. The I realized that the people that call others cynical are simply unwilling or unable to acknowledge the evil that exists among us. They are anti-cynical.
What is the word? Naively optimistic?
Then I started to make a list in my head about the things wrong in this world. Then I decided to write it down.
Shadd's list of things wrong with the world:
1) the past and present socioeconomic state
2) world politics
3) that smell coming from the cat box
4) pop music
5) rampant selfishness
6) fat chicks in midriffs
7) the chemical imbalance in my brain
8) the child-rearing practices of today's parents
9) the fact that Del Taco advertises its Macho Burrito as "1 pound!" of food
10) short-sighted capitalism
11) you are still reading this post
That's a pretty list of not-so-pretty problems.
I have found some solutions to keep me from getting sucked down into the dark swirling drain of depression.
1) Exercise
2) House music, and some Trance too
3) Making people happy
4) Acting locally, while thinking globally
5) Not taking Prozac. If my mind has a problem thinking positively then that is most assuredly the result of something that is wrong. Drugs are just a patch, a mask to the problem, which yet remains behind the foggy band-aid of anti-depressants. If I am ever to be truly free, then I must address the problem head-on and fix it.
Awwww, who am I kidding? Prozac is yummy!

selfishness has ensured human survival since the start and will continue untill we evolve into something probably even more selfish. Selfish greedy people make me optimistic.
