Here's a little background on the 4 factions that will be vying for control of Uber along with a little bit of preface to the story.
Now, I know I said that I'd have all the positions in my second email, but seeing as a lot of people are still signing up, it'll have to wait until next week. However, at least now you'll be able to know at least somewhat, what to expect.
Anyway, without further ado, here are the faction descriptions, followed by a little background on the land of Uber itself.

The Maelstrom Empire
A slight altering of the famous "Sex, Drugs, and Rock & Roll" to read "Sex, Beer, and Kicking Ass" would be a great label for the Maelstrom. After a successful battle, the men and women of this faction have been known to engage in drunken orgies that last the better part of a week.
This somewhat traditionally organized (and the term is used lightly) believes in the adrenaline rush of charging into battle and expending every ounce of strength among the chaos of battle. Their warriors feel that they might not come out of every battle alive, but at least they're going to take as many lives and limbs with them when they fall. Both the men and women of the famous and highest ranked 'Blades of Bedlam Order' of this empire have a much admired credo among the populace that goes "Drink hard, and burn off your hangover in heat off battle."
Although less common due to the study required to become proficient and the self destructive nature of their potent magic, the mages of this empire are extremely dangerous. They deal mainly in violent and chaotic powers of nature, and it is not unknown for a high ranked mage of this order to destroy both himself and many numbers from both sides of the field when he unleashes too much power and ends up having a massive volcano erupt underneath him.
The Oozing Horde
Ever passed a scruffy man with a dirty beard talking to him on the side of the road? You know how you get that sense of "Don't touch"? Welcome to the Oozing Horde.
Were there a 'wrong side of the tracks' in the land of Uber, these creatures would live underneath it. It's not uncommon for a member of the fighting force of the Horde to have a third arm and fourth leg, all of which are skilled in the use of weapons. Due to their strange physical make-up, the armorers and blacksmiths of this clan have become renowned across the entire land as the best due to their consistent need to forge unique weapons and armor for their oddly appendaged people. Many an opposing warrior has fallen under the 6-armed swing of a giant maul, when he has underestimated the bizarre opponent facing him.
Just like their physical nature, the magic of this freakish people has developed through biology, and not through study. Strange developments of the mind are just as common as those of the body which have left a good portion of the population somewhat insane, but also has left almost half the population able to use at least some kind of minor mental magic. Although it is much rarer for a psychic to emerge with the ability destroy a stone house with his/her mind, it is quite common for one to throw a mental kick into the nuts of a closing opponent.
Hell's Swarm
When Hell's Swarm comes to mind, think evil. In fact think of something really evil, like kicking a puppy. Now replace that with kicking a puppy off a cliff in front of little Johnny (owner of the puppy) with steel toed boots on, and then casting a spell to turn the falling puppy into a giant one so that with it's splat it crushes the troop of girl scouts that sits below raising money for the "Save the Puppies" foundation. Well, that's what Hell's Swarm does when they don't have anything more evil to do and are bored.
The front line legions of the Swarm are made up mostly black eyed and of horn-laden demons of various sizes carrying the most pain educing weapons imaginable, and blazing fire elementals who brandish arsenals of flaming whips and swords. Many of the bravest warriors have been known to turn tail and run when faced with and advancing troop of these spawns of Satan.
When it comes to the magic used by this crew, fire is their concentration of choice due to the damage that it can cause to both their living opponents and their property. Coming a close second are the shadow arts, which use charm and greed to turn ally against ally. Particularly, the seducing succubae of this faction rely heavily on this brand of magic.
Solemn & Elder
By far, the joined clans of Solemn and Elder are the fewest in number. However, individually, the members of this force are the most powerful.
Their history dates back to a time before this new battle for Uber was ever a glimpse in the eye of the toad that would eventually evolve into a member of the Horde. Originally enemies, the two races of the Solemn and the Elder were at war, but eventually came to peace and finally to be allies before deciding to take their leave of the land. Now that violence and battle has finally come back to the land of uber, the remnants of their people have decided to reemerge upon the land and put down all the warring factions and once again have the land prosper.
The Solemn clan is made up of the mystically inclined races of old. Although fragile in physical makeup, here you would find many extremely powerful warlocks and sorceresses who can cast land shattering spells of a variety of natures, however through study they have focused their research in the magic of what they call "The Second Plane" as they have found that it is here where the highest potential lies.
The Elder Clan is the almost polar opposite of their ally, and it is the walking Redwoods and moving Mountains that are the bulk of their clan. A platoon of three Elder has been known to standoff against an entire battalion of what they consider the 'lower races'.

Background
All was peaceful in the land of Uber for many many years. As the various races of the differing regions grew into towns, these towns then grew to cities, and finally the cities grew to kingdoms led by the greatest of men and women, populations began to thrive and grow. It was not long before the territory that each kingdom held was bulging at it's seems in terms of being able to support it's peoples, and so, these peoples were forced to venture into the lands of their previously avoided neighbors in order to survive.
In the land of Uber, a war has been slowly growing. The three very different and very separate factions have increasingly been stepping over the boundaries of their territories as their numbers have grown. The forages into enemy ground have constantly resulted in bloodshed among the groups, and as the numbers of fallen reach higher and higher levels, so have the tensions between the groups.
The races of old have seen this coming war, and as they do not want their past mistakes to be repeated by those who inhabit the world today. They have made it their quest to quell all uprising as quickly as possible so that the land may prosper naturally once again. They believe their higher knowledge to be guiding them down the correct path, yet in their hidden away lives, they have shrunken to only a fraction of the power they used to hold, and it will be no obvious triumph for their depleted numbers.
The Battle for Uber is beginning. Who will be standing in the end is up to you.

I just got through making a list of all the users who want in. There are 103.
I've also begun to write descriptions of the lead characters. This is going to take a while to get everyone sorted out, so I'll have the casting done by earliest Friday.

I'm trying to figure out which faction I seem to fit best, but I can't. I've been here longer than most, but I'd hardly call myelf an "Elder." And the others, hell, I have no idea.

Yes, YOU are the story-teller, and it is more than your perogative to put me wherever the fuck you want (including not in the series at all), but those would be my preferences. That said, this really is a kick-ass basis for a story.

You can read the link at the start of this post for the whole deal, but I'll give you a quick idea.
I choose what faction you're in (but you can make requests if you'd like), and who you are a what level of importance to the story. Throughout the course of the week, I'll kind of take a look at what people are up to, and will right a piece of the ongoing story, where characters perform as well as how much I like their posts, or if I don't read them, how well they're rated.
I'm the only one writing this, and I'm never going to ask anybody to post anything in particular. Everyone just posts as normal, and those who post well will benefit in my story.

With the whole debate over the 'best series' recently, I'd say that if done correctly, THIS series could be the best of them all. Not to detract from MickGinny, Mike, or Snark, but the namedropping, constant paroozing of Uber, and self-induldency of this series could eclipose all others.
