They don't know I can draw in the dark. In two more nights I'll be done with all of this.

******

I've been here since I was seven. That was the third year in a row Atlanta was buried in three feet of snow on Christmas day. That was the third year in a row mommy put one of my White Christmas drawings on my family's refrigerator door. The men in masks came to the door on Christmas Eve.

"We need you, Kara," they'd said behind their masks. Even at seven I could see the fear in their eyes. They were afraid of me. My mommy was afraid, too. She was afraid of the masked men and the guns they carried.

My daddy, drunk as usual, was three whiskeys past fear. They shot him and he fell, dropping the baseball bat. They shot mommy too, even though she was just standing there shaking. They took me away in their big black van and I never saw my house again.

******

They took me far. I know because we were in the van long past sunrise on Christmas; through the blindfold and tears I could see the light grow. I cried because I missed mommy and even daddy. This was supposed to be a happy day of presents, where mommy would give lots of hugs and daddy would wait until late to start drinking.

When they took the blindfold off I saw I was in a white room. I was sitting in a chair and I was all by myself.

A voice came into the room, scaring me. I started crying again.

"You can stop crying now, Kara," the voice said. It sounded like a grandpapa's voice, soft and kind. "You will not be harmed in any way. I'm sure you have many questions, some of which may be answered in time."

I sniffled, trying to stop the tears. I was sleepy and confused.

"Kara, it should be enough for you to know that you are here because your country needs you."

"Needs me for what?" I asked between sobs.

Grandpapa replied softly, "We need you to draw."

******

Some of my questions were indeed answered in time. Most of the things I see or am made to do raise more questions than I could ever get answers for. I'm scared more often than not. I'm scared of myself.

I've been here four years, I think, because I get Christmas presents once a year. I've gotten four presents, so I guess that means four years. A coloring book, a necklace, a hairbrush and, last month, a small hand mirror. That mirror will set me free.

Damn, I looked and I couldn't find any more installments on this series.
I know you're not like me.....but I did a couple of stories; few hits. few reviews,...
said: Fuck Them, to myself, and didn't finish them.

I'm glad you didn't stop writing.

Cool. Enigmatic, but still deeply interesting.
