After I got some sweet feedback about your thoughts on Will Ferrel, I thought I'd blast another comedian in a similar fashion. It's not that I don't like Bill Murray, it's more like I hate Sofia Coppala and her fucking pampered life. So anyway any feedback is appreciated even the negative. Just keep in mind these are my opinions and my opinions are always fucking right. Enjoy.
I have seen this movie twice in my life time. Once when it came out on tape, raving about its numerous awards on the cover and twice when I had to sit through it in college to see the effects of culture shock between global communities. These were the two things people who liked the movie raved about and the only two things you can talk about to sell this piece of Shit.
First of all this movie is slow and I mean slow as in "this moves at the rate of a constipated man's bowels." You can easily fast forward through the entire movie and hear every bit of dialogue in 20 minutes instead of watching the lobotomizing entirety.
The constant theme of the movie is to show how sterile and shallow the world of Japan is, while two Americans try to form an emotional bond since their life is now in the crapper. First of all I don't get this. They are two rich people and to my knowledge one is extremely well educated. Stop bitching about life handing you a bad deal and get a damn job like most people. I don't care your husband is spending more time working then with you, he needs to have a job to support your lazy ass who took dumb courses and rather not apply them to the real world. Obviously the story is weak at best and shows two people basically bitching about life while having it easier than the rest of us.
To end this on a good note I will say two things. First of all Bill Murray is a shitty actor always was always will. He's a comedian and shows no true acting ability, look at Groundhog Day for god sake it wasn't even funny and neither was this movie despite claims "Oh he has clamps on his back from the film set where the guy can't speak English! Hahaha! Engrish is so funny LOL!" (Never use internet abbreviations it makes you look retarded) (If you're going to blast me about his role in Caddy Shack, don't. I'm way ahead of you. He was good, I'll give him that, but any comedian/actor could have done that role with moderate success. Jesus, even Tiger Woods did a credible impersonation of Murray's role in those commercials for American Express and he's a fucking golfer). Second Sophia Coppala is a terrible director never mind her undeserving Academy Award, which was given because of the pull her family has, don't kid yourself. Obviously they aren't going to give her best director; that would look too suspicious. Besides she would be grouped with other directors who raped children in their lifetime and also have received this award and how would that look (Funny how you can make a movie about being a Jew during WWII and it automatically gets a best picture nomination; without any thought to who the fuck is receiving the award. I know lets nominate a child molester and on top of that let him win; then maybe the public will forget about David Letterman and his shitty performance all those years ago. Maybe I should finally make "Jews in Space" where a crack team of Rabbis try to dismantle a Nazi satellite carrying nuclear warheads set on destroying Boca Raton, Florida and other Jewish Strongholds that constantly fuck up elections. The fucking Academy would cream their pants). The cinematography was terrible and her script was non-existent she should have just shouted at the actors for 2 hours she would have wound up with the same shit and praised the same way. All in all this movie sucks don't watch it, but who am I experience the carnage yourself. Just don't castrate anyone after you see it, crying about its total lack of anything significant about real life.

Remember movies don't have to have nuclear winters, world destruction, vampires, car chases, shitty actors, and all the things you most likely enjoy to be considered classics.

Yeah I guess this movie was more along the lines of Catcher in the Rye when it comes to liking it. Some like it others don't. I don't believe however its understanding the movie that makes me not like it. There is little to understand the plot is pretty basic the simplicity of the movie is what people love, I understand that. I mean anybody who has liked this move had their heart melted at that foot grabbing moment, I on the other hand didn't. And you can still write posts on this subject I'm not the only one who wrote about Lost in Translation on Uber.

I'm torn because I was going to write a post entitled "Lost In Translation" and now I have to hate you because it would be weird to have it on the same front page as this post, but on the other hand, I also didn't really like the movie. It just didn't do it for me.
I think it was one of those ones where you had to connect with it or you'd hate it. I just didn't happen to.

You got it all wrong.
It was meant to be a touching film, about a sad lonely guy who goes to japan doing a commercial, and meets another sad lonely girl. They have fun together, and make their lives interesting. There isn't much of a plot. It's more artistic than the Polish midget porn you must be used to.
Jackass.

i agree that Lost in Translation sucked dog balls so i'm giving you this neutral score. I personally like Bill Murray a lot and thought Groundhog Day was a cool movie. That movie, on a deeper level, underneath the surface of silly antics, presented an interesting depiction about morality and redemption that's actually pretty hard to miss.

The movie was kind of lacking, but I really enjoyed all the parts Bill Murray was in. The only parts that really dragged were in the beginning, when the focus was on Sofia.

This is a well-written and amusing review, but I must respectfully disagree with your opinion. I think Bill Murray is a good actor (see Rushmore, The Royal Tennenbaums, and of course, Caddyshack), and I found Lost in Translation to be a very sweet and poignant movie.

Here's an idea... this was a movie that required a little something called 'thought'. If you want an immature giggle fest then go smoke a joint & rent 'Pootie Tang' or something more to your level of thinking.

That film had Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson.
It was a Sean Connery short of perfection. You couldn't be more wrong.

You are correct sir.
As much as I like Bill Murray, and have confidence in him that he can kick ass in a role such as that one, that film was a festering boil of noxious celluloid that oozed all over the silver screens of theaters.
The one thing that I did appreciate about that film was Murray's ability to make me feel his characters' grey loneliness. Bill did what he could with that disaster.
