Just figured I would ask Uber for some advice on my future, seeing as how most of you have been through this already.
Right now I'm a junior in H.S. and am looking to go to college for music (performance). I have been checking into different colleges, trying to find a top notch music school and am keeping in mind my cities college as a backup plan (University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee). I recently found http://www.musictech.edu and was wondering if anyone has gone there/goes there/knows about it. They offer a AAS degree, which isn't a bachelor's, but they say you can use your credits at another school to continue on and get a bachelor's degree. Price is an issue with me, as I am a white male from a middle/low income family. If you guys have been through this situation or have any advice I'd appreciate it a ton, thanks.

A degree in music performance? Sounds like a colossal waste of time. How many successful artists are where they are today because they went to college?
Learn something useful.

The Conservatory at the University of Cincinnati or the Peabody School at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.
I hope you're gay, because if you aren't, you will be after majoring in music performance.

I'm with Rad on this one...although, I'm not SO vehement against music performance degrees.
I went to the University of Hartford in CT. My major was acoustical engineering and my minor was jazz bass...so, I was in the music school a lot!
I had a ton of friends that got performance degrees and it wasn't until their junior or senior year that they realized a performance degree was a waste of time. Most, if not all, of those friends don't use their performance degree now.
The only time a music performance degree is useful is if you're planning on going for a spot in a major symphony orchestra.
If you want to study jazz or composition or ANYTHING else, then I would stay away from a performance degree.
Look into a music production major with a performance minor...or a music business major with a performance minor.
Believe me, if you do a performance minor, you can REALLY get A LOT out of it - as much, if not more than a performance major.

I don't think it was your ability that was in question, it's just a question of what the hell you do with a degree in music performance.

I currently play bass guitar, can play standup and electric guitar as well. I don't see why I shouldn't get a degree in music performance.

they're lying
credits don't EVER transfer for shit
bite the bullet, and get your BS now
---------------------------------------
Yeah, be careful about that. Just because they say they'll transfer, doesn't mean it's true. If you plan on doing that you should do some research first. You might even want to get written guarantees from the universities you might attend that they'll transfer your credits. Otherwise it's a mountain of red tape and you could easily get fucked over.

Look at Eastman School in Rochester NY, or Berkelee in Boston. Those are the two best i know.

If you can stretch the budget, Vander Cook in Chicago looks fantastic.
What do you play?
