I've seen some pretty cool posts here on uber that are done in chapters. I probably suck at it, but I'm going to give it a shot anyway. It's a short story, in shorter bursts. Here goes nothing.
----------------------------------------------------------------
I slammed the door behind me as I tore my body through the front yard, looking frantically for anything to calm me down. The combination of nerves and anger had me twisted into a fit of emotional confusion that would make the strongest man quake. I knew just by looking at my hands, that I had a lot of work to do before anybody found out about this. I was spinning out fast though, looking for somewhere to start. My mind was racing, my heart was pounding, and the sweat was so thick my hands were dripping. The combination of muggy air, and mosquitoes didn't make the situation any better.
Swatting my arms through the air like swords, I beat the bugs out of the way, and made my way back to the front door. "Just try and keep calm...just stay calm." I kept telling myself. I walked back into the house and saw what I had done. Something about the pool of blood made my stomach turn, and I vomited into the trash can. I tried to keep one eye closed, so I didn't have much ground to cover when I needed to look away from the situation. Slowly rotating my head back and forth, taking in more and more of the scene each time, I slowly became more comfortable with what I had to do. It was like watching a kid try and kill a spider...how he'll take two steps towards it, then run back to where he started. I needed to work up the courage face my deed, let alone deal with it.
That's when I heard the tires crushing gravel in my driveway. Somebody heard...but not only did they hear, they called the cops. I saw reflections of blue and red lights dancing off of my window, taunting me to get the fuck out of there. For some reason, my legs wouldn't move. It was like I was drilled to the ground in shock...horrified, confused, and in some kind of trouble that I hadn't even thought about yet.
I looked over at the TV. We had just gotten a new DVD player, and last night we watched a scary movie. I heard knocking on the door, so I had to be quick about this.
"Just a minute! I'll be right there!" I couldn't have sounded to calm. My voice shook, and my feet slammed with every step I took, resonating through the whole house, sounding like I was hiding something before I had to get the door.
I turned on the DVD player, and threw the remote on the ground, the TV's volume was just loud enough that the police could hear it outside.
I threw an air mattress over the blood and walked to the door. My hands wiped the dirt off of my white t-shirt, and I cleared the sweat from my brow with my forearm as I opened the door with my other hand.
"Good evening sir. We had a report of screaming coming from this residence. Is everything alright?"
"Oh, yeah. Everything's fine officer. I was just watching a scary movie, and got up to get a glass of water...the remote got stuck in the chair, and the volume turned way up just as something big was happening."
"That's interesting. Where's your TV?"
"Well, it's in my bedroom."
"Which part of the house is your bedroom at, sir?"
"Right over this way." I pointed to the bedroom, which was down the hall and to the left.
"So it's at the east wing of the house?"
"Yes sir. Is everything ok?"
"Oh, I think everything is fine...it's just that the scream was heard from the west wing of the house...Do you mind if we take a look around, to be sure?"
