Now I know that most people know what I'm going to be talking about simply based on the title, yes Bulimia is an eating disorder as you most probebly know. But that is what's the problem.
It's great that people know what the disorder is and can associate certain things with the word, but I believe that this isactually causing more harm than good. Now if I had never been edicated on what Bulimia was I would never have even considered regurgitating food as a way of losing weight, but now that the awareness has been raised many more people know of said method of weight loss.
The problem is that due to media 'sensationalism' generally only the worse case scenarios are shown to the public and this has instigated a belief that bulimia 'in moderation' is not detrimental to the body and I have even found that it has been encourgaed by girls in my grade as a way to lose weight without having to eat less.
Now I don't really know who to blame for shaping this opinion, but I believe that more needs to be done to raise awarness of what the disorder actually does physically as well as mentally in stead of what the disorder actually is because I see an appaling 'fad' in development...

sorry, wrote it on my laptop which can be a bitch without a mouse plugged in so I didn't check over.
At least I write more coherently than some of the people on this site... =S

Shame they didn't "edicate" you to write coherently really.

Some do it for attention, specifically the ones that broadcast their problems. When it is real, it is awful to witness.
You can be bulimic and still be overweight. If a person is malnurished, they often "bloat up." The body tends to overcompensate, and metabolism shuts down. This shutdown actually prevents weight loss, and the whole goal of the bulimic is lost. This reasoning applies to dieting, too, and why deprivation can actually do the opposite of what you think.
To all those who think they need to lose weight--Stop starving yourself and get off your ass. Go walk, run, or join a gym. Find a hobby that makes you move around. You'll loose some weight then.

If bulemia is, in your opinion, becoming such a huge "fad" - then why are 90% of teenaged girls these days obese?
Girls will more than likely throw up one time (or not), and then pretend they have an actual disorder for the attention. Stop falling for shenanigans.
(For the record, to be categorized as "obese" you need only to be 20% or more over your range of ideal body weight. The popular misconception is that obesity only applies to the "morbidly obese.")

You want a real eating order, just try to pay your own way through college.
Behold! The "poor college kid" diet:
Breakfast: coffee, anything else will just make you hungry later in the day
Lunch: cold coffe, can't stand to pay the high prices on campus
Dinner: hot dog and cheese rolled in tortilla (20 bucks will feed you for two weeks this way)
Late night: coffee, if you eat anything now you will be hungry for breakfast.

I see what you mean, I was suggesting that it was the media but that it is the fact that the media only displays the worse case situations which has allowed some to develop the preconception that it is alright to regurgitate after eating every so often...

Whaaaat?? I've never even heard HINT of the idea that bulimia in moderation is not detrimental to the body. To the contrary, every piece of media I've ever seen concerning the subject tries to hit you over the head with how bad it is for you and how big a problem it is...you know, how they had to change the plumbing at such-and-such university because the constant puking by the girls was rotting away the pipes, and so forth.
Bulimia is a stupid byproduct of a society that idealizes a certain body image, but also advocates a quick-fix to problem solving. There's something about our culture...we seem to not want to take the long and proper way to do things, and always cut corners. I think it's called "stupidity".
And you're right, more people need to know about it.

I've heard people saying that if you wait 20-30 minutes after eating to vomit, it isn't as detrimental to your body. Your body digests just enough to get you to your next meal, and you don't get all that extra food.
It's bullshit.
