GodChicken, I think you forget when you say "25 nations whose joint currency is currently more highly valued than the US dollar" that a lot of those countries lost out when they joined the Euro. Their own currency would have been more valuable to keep. And also that not every country in the EU is a member of the single European currency. Just an observation.
I disagree with you for once, and I wish I had the energy to do the research to back up my reasoning. Alas, I don't right now.

Yeah, what's wrong with this picture is you don't understand the concept of "per capita".
$15million is less than the yearly salary of most celebrities and corporate moguls in America.
Something's wrong with this picture indeed.

Teeph covered most of what I wanted to say, except for this. There's no merit in these "per capita" arguments, because this is money donated by the federal government, not private citizens opening up their wallets. If anything, this post shows how much money the government is spending on other things (legitimate or otherwise). So dont be surprised if they cant spare more than 15 million.
Moreover, it's freaking charity! Forget this "moral obligation" crap. Nobody owes anybody anything else. If the United States, or any other country, does anything good for Indonesia and the tsunami victims, then it's still good will done, regardless of whether or not they could have done more. If a rich man gives a thousand dollars to fight cancer, you're the first person to say "but he could have given 10,000". Maybe that's true, but he still gave a thousand dollars. Dont act like it doesnt help. And if it doesnt help, then dont take it. Either way, quit your fucking bitching.

The salary of a corporate executive means nothing in the scale of things here. 25 nations whose joint currency is currently more highly valued than the US dollar should be able to meet or match a contribution even as token and paltry as 15 million from a single contributor.
The thing that I say is wrong with this picture is: Anytime something awful happens, the world looks to the US to foot the goddamn bill, and we're already footing a rather large bill for the war, justified or not.
Someone else could certainly step up to the plate and be a philanthropist, but no. The entire European Union's joint budget couldn't cough up but a THIRD of a token aid contribution? Lord knows they're not spending it on defense! Where's the beef?
Lets not forget that this was an initial contribution from both parties.
