I floated with the current of the river until I started recognizing the landscape. Even in the dark of night I could tell I was nearing our camp. I watched the shore closely and when I saw some of our fishing nets lying on the bank quietly climbed out of the river. I looked around and not seeing anyone went to find our knife, rope and the spears we'd made for killing the boars. As soon as I had these items I walked toward the beach working my way through the underbrush and just as I reached the tree line heard the sounds of someone following me.
I moved off the trail as quickly and quietly as I could and crouched low in the brush. Soon I saw a camera with a light on it walking down the path. With thoughts of vengeance ever on my mind now I waited until the cameraman had passed me to spring on him driving one of my spears through the man's chest. I didn't recognize the cameraman but his association with this show was enough justification for me, just one more person who'd allowed the callous disregard for life that has cost me so dearly. I grabbed his radio and camera turning them off as I ran out on to the beach.
I ran up the beach, passing the graves of my fallen friends, until I reached another path, I ran down the path until I spotted some heavy brush. I dove into the brush and lay down panting, trying to catch my breath. I lay there for several minutes trying to decide what to do, I still had a long way to go before I could return and finally leave this infernal island.
As I lay there thinking I thought of the pit we'd dug shortly after we established camp. We were going to try to catch animals using this pit but quickly discovered that we could not trick anything into falling into it. Now I wondered if I could lure the hunter into it. I was tired of hiding, tired of fighting, I decided that I was either going to win or lose but I would win or lose on my terms. I gathered the camera, radio, knife and spears up and ran toward the pit. I came to the edge and saw that we'd only gotten down about three feet but I thought it might be enough if I could lure the hunter to it. It was right in the middle of one of the myriad game trails cutting through the woods so if I could lead that bastard to the trail I thought I stood a fair chance of him falling in.
I shoved the spears I'd collected into the loose soil until the tips were just below the rim of the pit then I gathered as many loose branches as I could to loosely cover the hole. I then scooped up as much of the dead leaves, grass and anything else I could find to scatter on to the branches and around the hole. I stood back and reviewed my work; even examining my work it was difficult to see that there was anything amiss. I then took the rope and strung it low off the ground across the path, just a couple of feet in front of the pit; this too I covered with litter and debris. I walked a little further down the path, turned on the camera and dropped it on the trail then I walked back to the hole and climbed up one of the nearby trees climbing as high as I could. I turned on the radio and listened. Before long the chatter revealed that the hunter's name was Bryant, the camera crew was looking for me but so far hadn't found the body of the cameraman I'd killed earlier. I thought hard on how to describe this area of the island without leading them to the fallen cameraman.
"Bryant I think I've spotted him, he's running away from the beach moving toward the cliff's. He on a path leading away from their old camp, moving slowly, come quick."
"Copy, on my way."
I rested my back against the trunk of the tree and waited watching the trail carefully. Soon I spotted him and two more cameramen following closely. I watched as they ran up the path and nearly shouted in joy when the hunter tripped over the rope and fell face first into the pit behind it. He lay there, face down with several of the spear points sticking out of his back. The cameramen filmed in disbelief for several minutes before turning off their cameras and walking away. I relaxed, leaning against the trunk of the tree. I didn't dare return yet, technically there were still several hours left in this final challenge but I hoped that now that the hunter had been dispatched I could wait them out quietly and without fear.

thank God for the new installment. it was as good as i expected. i admire the fact that you've kept up the series even though most fiction, especially serial fiction, doesn't get much attention.

Wow, a series that almost matches mine in length. Impressive. But, a word from a fellow "hit-whore": You might want to stop showing all the other posts soon, or else others might start complaining. It happened to me around this point.

Can't help but think that a contestant going postal will do wonders for the shows ratings.
