Hold on just a moment.
An earthquake happens.
The government of a country decides to put... what.. profit!? over the lives of the people living in low-lying coastal areas that will be affected by the tsunami, because putting out a tsunami warning will affect profits.
The wave spreads, the warning does not.
And then, to top it off, the aid given by countries with money (not by the people in those countries, but by governments) is mostly 'boomerang' aid - given as aid, on the requirement it be spend on employing companies from the nation that gave so generously to rebuild, or at least on that country's conditions.
Add one more: what the US spend on tsunami victims, in the country their corporations so blatantly rape, is IN TOTAL the same as what they spend in a mere few hours keeping troops on the ground in Iraq, when it's clear noone but the US wants them to be there...
What little is given by corporations is merely the advertising budget spent in a more effective way.
The poor in these countries are poor because they get fucked around by companies like Nike, setting up their sweatshops, and giving their employees slave wages and long hours, and the corrupt governments the US helps set up. Does anyone know about Kopassus and the slaughtering of 500,000 communists in Indonesia in the late 60's? At the CIA's behest, no less. Then when their houses don't stand up, let alone stand up to a wall of water, you are surprised they couldn't afford better building materials.
Does anyone else see the fallacy in logic?

the people are happy to have nike employing them for a miniscule wages. if their choices are to work for nike, get enough money to eat and clothe themselves, or not work for nike, and starve, which do you think they rather do?
just because they make 39 cents a day, and you make 6.25 an hour, doesn't mean that they are being exploited.
-2 because you made your point like a douchebag dick asshole bitch.

My aggression? The only aggression I have comes out on the rugby field.
I fairly acknowledge those things in my life which are good, and why, but there's still something fundamentally wrong about the world.
It is my disgust that fuels me.

If your last remark was to concern with I. Let me just say...nothing you've said is news to me.
Your easy living is the result of things you apparently choose not to appreciate. Taking grounds, as you have on this matter, seems to prove to me that your aggression, towards how you believe the world works, is also your motivation. After all, these people are getting help...not bullets.

Some people are getting help... from a bullet, maybe. Or a bible.
Okay, not everyone will starve as much, because some of the real nice people who do all the work here gave money.
As opposed to governments, who tie it into particular programs... australia offered $1 billion, mostly to indonesia, which is conditional on australia's demands, and this includes the cost of shipping australian troops to Aceh and paying them while they're there (they would be paid anyway).
They are doing this not to be nice, but because they can't get away with less. Not only that, but they're making it conditional - loans, boomerang aid, 'political stability' (which in indonesia means killing as many people as required to keep foreign investors happy) and so on.
A few years ago, australia helped 'liberate' East Timor, participating (but not effectively) in the end of an occupation that had killed (estimatedly) hundreds of thousands.
If they cared, the annexation wouldn't have happened in the first place.
You give me a bad rating, and you don't even think twice. Are you the boss? If you rate me badly without a good reason, I'll assume you are one, and systematically -2 ALL your posts.
You pissed off the wrong commie.

As a non-american, I know this applies far more to the country I live in (in the case of tsunami relief) - australia.
But, most of you probably can't locate that on a map, so I didn't try and blow your minds outright.
Those who dis this on 'poor' logic need to look at how many gods it takes to change a lightbulb:
You can have as many as you like, but it will never happen until you get a person to believe in them.

You're right. America sucks. We are the evil empire. All this greed is getting to me. The hipocracy of my home nation shames me. The hipocracy of humanity saddens me.

The "war" is at halftime. The marching bands are playing for a few weeks.

Didn't the tsunami hit pretty quickly after the earthquake? Like, within an hour? I don't think they had alot of time.

You know, I was going to give this a negative two...but then I chose to give it a negative one.
Incoherent maybe, but it's still refreshing somehow.
At least they're getting help...right?

There is no "War in Iraq", silly. It's a government cover-up of an alien invasion. I'm surprised you didn't know that.
