I live in a really small, unimportant country. Holland. Things are usually nice and quiet here, but a few months ago, one of my greatest fears took shape. In a dream I had, I was lying in bed, at home, when suddenly a loud explosion shattered the windows and rumbled the closets in my chamber. I looked out of the window and saw a mushroom cloud, just before I was vaporized.

I am afraid this dream will become reality. I am afraid, America will drop an atomic bomb on Holland.
The American government have made clear from the beginning: "You are either with us, or against us." In the Iraq matter. It seems my country may choose to be 'against', so it will only be a matter of time before they blow Holland to kingdom come.

You see, because rumour has it that America has weapons of mass destruction. Not only atomic weapons, also biological and chemical weapons. Ofcourse I can't be sure they still posses them, but there's a lot of evidence pointing to that conclusion.

History has also shown that there is no doubt of their willingness to use them either...

The people from Holland (represented by me) demand the following:
- I want the American Government to prove they have destroyed, or never had any kind of ABC-weapon
- I want full acces to their laboratories and development centers, to see if they are not secretly producing them
- I want to retain the right to revisit said laboratories at any given time I see fit
- I want full acces to goverment documents concerning the possible existence of any kind of ABC-weapons in the possesion of America

Only then, and ONLY THEN, will I hopefully be able to catch some sleep.

Bush values human lives? My ass he does. Trusting him with a nuclear arsenal is like trusting a 3 year old with a grenade. The one reason why i'm not all that worried about it is that it's not going to last. All through history powers have come and gone, it will happen to America too, and they will fall hard. Who will be next? That's the question, maybe china will rise to power, America's bad but that would be way worse. Do you know what's funny? Most American's don't realise that many of their rights are being stripped away in literally the name of patriotism. Soon they'll be purging in the streets, and we'll be calling him Uncle George(someone better get the analergie).

Holy shit. I can't tell you how sick I am of people bustin all over the people of America. Ok, granted, our president is a little psycho and doesn't know when to shut up. But the people of America posses a fantastic power known as the Silent Majority. If Bushy gets TOO far out of line - the people via the media and peaceful (or violent) protests will put him in his place. Folks, we have the most powerful military on Earth for one reason only: peace. No, we are not looking to take over the world and people from Holland, Poland, New Zealand, or wherever else you may be have nothing to fear from Americans. Yes, we get our way. No, it doesn't mean we are setting up outposts in Canada to facilitate a future invasion (whoever said that is fucked up). You think taxpayers here want to finance an all out bid to take over the world? Shit, people where I live bitch about a 2 cent per year increase in taxes to put more parks in the town! Getting a little off track...All I am really trying to say is that if you look around at your neighbors, no matter where you live, things are probably really similar here. Good, hard working people, with a few bad apples and trouble makers in the bunch. Don't be a playa hata.

hey Nator,

you may live in a small country, but it is far from unimportant.

i truly believe that one day, people will look back at countries like Holland, Norway and Canada, and try to learn from them; after most of the world is riddled with dissention, civil and international war, global poverty due to food shortages being tainted by WMD.

Yes your country is small, and, in all fairness, if one country wanted to attack it, it probably wouldnt hold out any longer than czeckoslovakia or poland did in 1939. But you have what very, very few other countries have. You, when all is said and done, )and we are all either dead or looking back with a hindight of 20/20: which by the way means, before an event, it is difficult to see the mistakes or flaws in a plan; but afterward you can see all the mistakes that were made in detail) you can look back and say: "i didnt add to the troubles in the world."

Like, as we say in Canada, "we never buy a drink for an drunk". Simply means we wont add to the troubles in the world. Alot of times, when i think about travelling, or moving for that matter, i think about maybe moving to holland or the netherlands, where people are sane and not only have the same mindset as far as "fuck already, stop killing eachother, sit the fuck down, shut up, mind your own business and just live in peace for christ sake", but also are intelligent, use research for POSITIVE outcomes (like controlling pollution, instead of building a bomb that will ruin production for decades, not to mention kill thousands at a time)..

Anyways, after a post like this, im sure a lot of people here would call me hippie, or somethng to that nature, which i assure you i am not. Im just some dude above the 49th parallel, smokin my pot, in two bands making music, working my job and observing the world going to shti all around me.

About the US in particular however, i can totally relate to that dream. Try to imagin what it is like for us up here. I think (especially in the european countries) that everyone thinks we are "tight" with Americans, but this simply is not the case. Sure we are both democratic, and we have the worlds longest unprotected border, but we are far from "inseperable buddies." The fact is , even here, the US uses some strongarm tactics. When Chretien, (our prime minister, who i agree, is a fuckin smacktard) declined to joint he US in their little plot of "world domination," all of a sudden the president (of the US) was 'unavailable' to come to Canada and talk about some very important issues. We have some economic crises going on in canada in regards to lumber where thousands are out of work because the US put a HUGE tax on our lumber going over the border. We are supposed to have 'free trade' with the US, which now in hindsight we realize means, "the Us doesnt want to pay any tax when they come in and RAPE your natural resources, but if you start making too much money we'll tax your ass and what? What will you do about it? You'll pay our fucking tax!"

The president of the US has still neglected to even meet with uor prime minister, yet our PM wont back down from his "vote to not support the war."

Think about the natural resources we have up here. Right now, fossil fuels are the biggest resource. But, being non-renewable, they will eventually fade out to being not as important as renewable resources such as fresh water, lumber, ore etc. Even clean air. In Canada, we have TONS of all of these resources, i mean, we inhabit about 1/16 of our country, and the rest is forests, lakes rivers etc.The united states however, is running out of natural resources. They are running out of electricity with brownouts all over california (where we provided them with extra electricity) and they, maybe most importantly, are running out of space. Now they want to come in and set up some 'anti terrorist' posts and early warning systems in Canada, even though we already have that technology set up from the Cold War with Russia. To me that can only mean one thing....

So you see, the thought that one day, on some foggy September morning, a US battalion will cross the unprotected border, and come into our free country and take us out with some bullshit excuse and the world will simply watch. It will be the end of an era. But until that day, we will stand tall, hippies or not, and say: "We simply will not bow down to a lesser intelligence, a country who, with great portential to do good, blindly follows their leader and corporate interests into bloody wars and military coos, the raping of resources, and a slow climb to being the biggest 'dictatorship' this world has ever seen." Until the majority of Americans stand up to their government and say, FUCK THIS, I WANT FARMER JOE TO PRESIDENT adn to put things like hard work, fairness, and OVERALL prosperity as the most important issues, they will slowly fall into situations where war is inevitable. The general population of the US are good people, they jsut elect the wrong leaders, and further, in all reality dont really have a choice. I mean the last election when they elected G W Bush, the greatest smacktard of all time, they only had TWO realistic choices. I mean come on, can you balme them.

Be proud you live where you do. Be proud that you are worried about something like that. It means you are on the right side my friend, and that when your life ends, you can be proud of who you are and where you live. Proud on a global scale, knowing that you, and your fellow countrymen, did not "buy a drink for a drunk" and left the world just like you met it, if not a little better.

I am not American. In saying this, though, I do have belief in the inherent goodness of humans, (Yes, I'm naive. I also like sunsets, walks on the beach and dozing in front of an open fire. Fancy meeting me?.........Sorry, got a bit carried away) with some obvious exceptions. I do believe that the U.S will only wield its power for the good of the world (in most cases).

Though George W. Bush does make me uneasy by acting on Iraq without the U.N's approval because it virtually makes the U.N impotent as a global decision-making entity. But, as long as the U.S.A remains a democratic and free country, I have little fear as to their military intentions.

Ahh, I bet you've been worrying all day long about my opinion on this topic.

Actually, I bet that you don't give a rat's arse what I think. Either way, I still feel like a ciggarette.

Wasn't there a little thing called European Expansionism between 1400-1900? Where were those places? Was it Africa and in the far East. Wasn't it? Oh. The Dutch East Indies? And places like that. Man...I forgot about that part of history.

The only reason you in Holland have no fear of being bombed is because of the umbrella of security America has provided ever since WW II - the percentage of your GDP that you spend on your military (and most european countries for that matter) has become increasingly smaller. This makes sense of course - why need a military when one is already there?

"Which type would you rather possess wmd? Or, think about it this way: Which type would you rather give the capability of ending thousands of lives in a moment to: The type that respects life, or the kind that does not?"

The kind that does, obviously. But I don't think you can simply say the Americans are the first group, and others (read: Iraq) are the second. Frankly, I don't trust either of both countries. (though I'm not really afraid of being bombed by either America or Iraq)

"And we ain't hiding it. We have it in order to help us know who ELSE has it and how to stop it if its used."

I actually don't think America only has WMD to 'find out who else has them' and 'how to stop them'. They were made to be used on America's enemy. Just like other countries do.

"So did the French."

I know. That doesn't change anything. I could have chosen France as the agressor in my story as well, but I chose America because they play the biggest role in this whole disarmament (spelling) issue.

Whatever man...

The United States does plenty of weapons of mass destruction... all sorts in many different sizes. Nukes... chemical nasties and all sorts of biological catastophies. We have VX, athrax, sarin... you name it, we have it, and we probably invented the shit in the first place.

And we ain't hiding it. We have it in order to help us know who ELSE has it and how to stop it if its used. We may have been the only country to have used a nuke in anger, and our government has made it a point that we are the last. Same goes for all that other shit Saddam is itching to toss our way once the shooting starts. Maybe then all you fucks will shut up and realize what the US has been saying all along. Grow some balls for once.

Here we go:

<Whether *Any* country should have any sort of nuclear, biological, or chemical weapons is a moot point. Whether *any* country should or should not engage in war *at all* is also a moot point. That doesn't mean they aren't good points.. merely means they are not applicable to current situations. If the world were perfect, there would be no war. If the world were perfect, there would be no weapons of mass destruction because none would be needed. If the world were perfect, women would enjoy giving blowjobs. If you know anything, you must know this: the world is made up of humans, and humans by nature are a bickering bunch. Humans by nature will always attempt to rise up above their fellow humans and dominate them. You may not like it, but it's true. The only way to eliminate war is to eliminate the human race. The same holds true for weapons of mass destruction.

To think that war will be avoided because it is wrong is naive. Noble perhaps, but impractical and not realistic. War is inevitable; you cannot halt the gears of time. People are different; Differences lead to conflicts of interest; and thus on to battles and warfare.

However, being conscious of this, the human race has attempted to make itself more righteous. We have attempted to elevate ourselves to a superior state.. Some of us are further along than others. Some of us believe that all people have rights; Some of us believe that regardless of a man's views or beliefs, no matter how contrary they are to our own, he is still a man; Some of us hold that all people should have the right to liberty and self determination.

Ironically.. this very struggle for rights for all people has led to conflict in and of itself. We have tried to end conflict, only to create more.

Some people feel that not all people should have equal rights; to some, Equality is a foreign concept. This difference, sharp as it is, is sharpened yet more by the way two sides view one another. Stereotypes and prejudices as natural as anything are a part of human belief and shape are view towards other cultures and societies.

But when you get down to the very heart of the matter.. There are two groups of humans. Type A believes, in some form or another, that all humans have worth, that all men have certain rights.
Type B believes that not all humans have worth; that not all humans should have the right to do what they want to do.

Assume that it's necessary for ONE of those types to have *WMD*:

Which type would you rather possess wmd? Or, think about it this way: Which type would you rather give the capability of ending thousands of lives in a moment to: The type that respects life, or the kind that does not?

Why the US can have "WMD" but deny other nations to have them sounds hypocritical, but is the unfortunate reality of the world. As Hairsphincter said, no one should have WMD - and he's correct. However, in the world we live in, WMD are an unfortunate reality and as I have asked before, who would you prefer to have the capability of ending thousands of lives in a heartbeat - the kind of people who respect the right to life, or the kind who do not?

b.t.w. A group of Canadians have actually tried to inspect U.S. base but have been turned away:

Ok.. thanks for not flaming me to hard. I appreciate the comments.
However, Razor, I have no idea what 20-20 hindsight is. My bad probably.

And I'm probably not thát educated on the war, I know.. I haven't made my mind up about it; if I am against or for war. I wrote this basically to see how you more 'educated' guys would respond (thanks E H), and I try to base my opinion partly on that.

So far I'm still neutral. If America would take Saddam down, quickly and easy, with no further repercussion (not an increase of terrorist attacks, they dont take over oil fields, a minimum of civilian casualties, a democratic and friendly regime will be installed), then I'd be all for it.
The problem is I don't think the outcome will be like that, so what it comes down to for me is just wait untill the war is over, and then judge by its outcome if it was a good idea.

Ofcourse, that's stupid. Because I can only make that judgement once the war is already over.
*sigh*
So I remain neutral on this issue.

1) You would be vaporized before you saw the cloud, unless you were too far away in which case you would not be vaporized but you would catch one hell of a dose of radiation poisoning.
2) Yes, the United states currently possess over 6 thousand atomic weapons, However They are all accounted for. Unlike other countries such as russia who can't account for more then half of them.
China also has atomic weapons, africa has tried man times over and failed. Germany has them too. You just dont hear about it
3) With biological and chemical weapons, we will not use them, unless they are used against us. There are other factors that wave in as well. IE: how many civilians will be around, how many of our men will be around etc.

The fact that we have the weapons doesnt mean anything, we are not about to sell them to terrorist orginizations so that they can attack other countries. We aren't selling them to sadam so he can blow up israel. This is why we want sadam out of power, and the regime dis armed.

For you to make this post just proves to me that you are un educated. You may perhaps be intelligent, but your un educated in the current events of the world. Most people (mostly college students) who are protesting the war, Those that are protesting period!

This is an example of 20-20 hindsight.

The concept of weapons of mass destruction didn't exist when America dropped the bomb on hiroshima, it was only after that occurred that humanity had a notion that maybe these things were a bit dangerous.

The United States also never used chemical weapons to deliberately destroy civilians, although I know that Vietnam was a bit muddled.
