I never claimed that MyoPrene was original. The point I was trying to get across is that I can't rip off an idea from a "game" (if that's what you call it) that I have never heard of. When I said it was my own, what I was trying to get you you understand (without success) was that I put the brain power into thinking up a feasable powering device besides hydraulics FOR MY OWN STORY. I never had any delusions that the MyoPrene concept was original. However, I never used ANY source for ANY KIND of reference.
To sum it up, I HAVE NO REFERENCES CONCERNING MYOPRENE, OR ANY OTHER ROBOTIC FUNCTION OR SYSTEM (save the pilot/mech interface system, which I have already admitted to as being inspired by The Matrix). Unless of course, you are suggesting I give credit to every "giant robot battler" anime ever created. I'm sure that one way or another, I'm using ideas that were created way before I ever came along.
Why can't you just admit you were wrong? Or at least, just drop it. I take plaigarism VERY seriously, and you should too. I appreciate what you're trying to do for me, but in this case, you're wrong. I only need to do research if I plan on claiming that I created something no one else has, which is nearly impossible at this point. And I only need to give credit if I cite another source or use one in some other way (e.g. inspiration). If you want a ist of my inspirations, here they are: The Gundam series, The Dual series, The Japanese, for coming up with the concept, and The Matrix. There. That's it. I have seen some of the Robotech series, but it was not what inspired me, aside from being another "giant robot battler," as anyone with half a brain can figure out.
On a completely different note, I may be young (19), but I can take criticism, so long as it is founded in facts. It's false accusations made by people like you that piss me off (Which is why I post stuff on Uber. It makes perfect sense!), so don't you give me any of that "toughen up" bullshit. Get over yourself and get a life. It seems you spend WAY too much time in this sort of thing.
By the way, I'm still not going to give credit to Battletech, because 1: I never used it as a source; and 2: I'm not passing off MyoPrene as an original idea. How much you wanna bet Battletech is not the originator of the concept either?
As I told you before: there is nothing new under the sun.

Metroid,
We can agree to disagree that is fine, I got the battle idea in my head and wanted to go from there, at least to see what you could do in a short period.
I will however write something in the battlemech genre for your entertainment and you can critque it and blast or just enjoy it.
I am not a total geek though bro... click on my user info and you will see 180+ different things I have submitted. Some great, some suck, some are so so. It's how it goes.
Keep writing though dude.

Here's the only problem: I don't write like that. I started this story almost two years ago, and I only have one more post before you see all I have. Besides, what would be the point of dueling, anyway? I have no doubt that you are a better writer than me, especially if I try to write something quickly. Quickly to me is within a couple of weeks. And I understand what you mean, but I'm just not so into science fiction and that I'm as intense as you. You really need to lighten up a little. Shall we agree to disagree? That's an option too, you know.

I have now re-read the "Intro" post and I do see you creditted Dual and Gundam. I apologize for not seeing it previously. When writing something like this though, where you are trying to get indepth on the technology, you NEED to research it. Why? So that you can be technically accurate. Sci-Fi fans crave accuracy or at least a plausible definition of the technology. Star Wars authors have even tried to figure out the physics of a Light saber and argued interminably over the details. Even Star Trek's Transporters, replicators, and Warp Drives all have "plausible" reasons they work.
Interesting fact: MIT researchers are working on artificial muscles. http://www.ai.mit.edu/projects/muscle/muscle.html
and more indepth
http://www.ai.mit.edu/projects/muscle/papers/memo1330/memo1330.html
and still more

I have always taken a keen interest in this field as one of my cousins is a research neurologist, another is a brilliant Artificial Intelligence/physics guy, and yet a third is a mechanical/electrical engineer. Lots of geeks in my family, myself included. My own personal interest is due to some nerve damage and muscular atrophy that I suffered as a child.
I am aware that Myo is a latin precursor for muscle, hence it's use in many things like MyoPlex, myomer, and even MyoPrene. The US Army's soldier 2025 program is trying to get a textile based artificial muscle enhancement system for their combat uniforms.
The concept we will be writing about have a very possible future although the mechanized humanoid robot concept found in sources like Battletech, Gundam, Robotech, Voltron, Tranzor Z, and numerous other sources are fairly impractical but still a fun topic nonetheless.
Let's do battle, I will check with Bart and see if he can set us up in a mini uber madness bracket vs eachother (an uberduel as it were)
Side note: Back to your original piece, let me reiterate something, don't EXPLAIN the technology, work it into your story so that it explains itself. Your readers will appreciate it.
What kind of time frame would you like this to be on? 2 weeks starting Friday (submit completed work by 2-4-05)? 10,000 word limit is a bit long (20 pages or so) so let's try to limit it to 5000 (a little over or under is fine) which works out to 7-8 pages or so depending on your spacing.

Wrong again. Though I did not do it "officially," I did credit Gundam and Dual as inspirations in my backstory post. And yes, I did leave out the matrix on that one. My bad. I apologize for the final time.
And I don't care how old something is, if it's not used as a reference, it's not used as a reference, and no amout of pussyfooting around the issue will change that.
You accused me of purposefully ripping off an older idea. That is what we're talking about here. You seem to have forgotten that. I conceded that the MyoPrene concept was not original, but I never thought it was in the first place. I daresay that I never thought that there would be people out there so obsessed with things like Battletech that they would actually try to point out that my ideas concerning technology were not original. I figured that was a given. What I was really hoping for was that as soon as I had explained myself, you might actually give my intelligence some credit. I was a naive fool.
My point is this, and I will say it for the last time: I did not steal the myomer concept from Battletech. At all. Period. End of discussion.
Also, do you even know why I used the prefix "myo," which makes the two words sound similar? Because it's a medical term meaning "muscle." That's only logical. Nor did I purposefully rip off the "shell armor/epidermal armor" idea. To suggest so shows that you think I am VERY unintelligent. I don't appreciate that.
And no, I am not giving any credit to Battletech other than "they came up with it before I did." Because as far as my story is concerned, I came up with MyoPrene on my own. No help. At all. Ever. It's not original, but I had to "discover" it for myself.
I'm trying to have a little fun here, but you're making it a nightmare. If you like the story, then enjoy it. I'm glad you like it. I'm doing this so that maybe people will read it and get some enjoyment out of it; not so that I can have people tell me I stole ideas from something I never heard of.
And yes, I read all of your post. Several times.
If you wanna go ahead and write a robo battler story, do it. I'll read it, and probably like it. I don't mean to be a dick, but being called a theif is something I cannot tolerate.
What's your IM SN? AOL or MSN? I'd like to discuss this "face to face" as it were.

I'm flattered that you took the time to dedicate a post to me specifically as a rebuttal, however, as you may or may not have observed, I was irritated by a BLATANT concept rip.
If you had paid a bit more attention to the content a bit further on in the review you would have received some further hints as how to improve your writing.
tell ya what though, to settle this, how about we battle?
Mech combat story versus mech combat story ala Ubermadness style. 2 submissions anonymously with the winner picked by the uberreaders.
If I win, you shut up and listen to my criticism.
If you win, I apologize.
10,000 word max sound fair?
Let's find a referee like Jared or someone to make it all fair?
For the record: Battletech preceeded Gundam and a great deal of the anime you so revere and was used as a source for a great deal of it. Robotech cameout in the late 80's and with that so did some new concepts in the game, like the plane that converts to a robot and back again. All of it though was initally set off by Starblazers, an Anime from the 70's
Until this post of your you Creditted NONE of this as your inspiration, and the taking of ideas without creditting the original IS plagarism.
