We had a bunch of unexpected free days in Lhasa because a few people came down with a flu-like mystery illness and couldn't travel or camp. So although we had to forego a camping trip at the holiest lake in Tibet, we had time to really get to know the city on our own.

The top image is from the base of the Potala (the Dalai Lama's palace). It's a red and white building perched on a small mountain overlooking all of Lhasa. The uppermost roof is gold and is where the Dalai Lamas' funereal stupas are kept. Unexpectedly enough, I was sitting there waiting for a few of my friends to finish uploading their digital cameras' contents at a Kodak store. Freakin tourists.

The bottom image is of a balcony at the Jokhang. The balcony is gold and is filled with potted plants. Those blurry shapes in the background are mountains. The scanning is horrible, sorry. A friend and I went to the Jokhang on our own time in the morning, after having been there already as a group during the tourist hours. The Jokhang full of pilgrims was very different from the Jokhang filled with tourists, obviously.

Pretty good, way to go. I liked these.

Cheers for the comments on my N00b post though, just did a bit of a scan through of my old stuff for the first time in months because I like to punish myself.

I don't post more because I didn't think my other posts were as good as they could have been and I'm a bit short on inspiration at the moment. Besides, the competition's pretty tough and I have a weak ego (don't really, I'm just lazy)

If you run into "Grasshopper", make sure you ask him to snatch the pebbles from your palm, or pick up a hot Hibachi with his forearms...............

TimeCop, I don't really know what to tell you about the weather there. We stayed in the mild parts toward the south, the really fun part came on our road trips when we would go up past the frost line on mountain passes and have snowball fights. The sun is a lot brighter so you have to wear sunscreen. That's about all I can really say.

The lack of oxygen was pretty fun. Well, it'll either make you feel tripped out and drunk or nauseated and fatigued. I got the more enjoyable symptoms because I'm a smoker.

If you're really thinking about going, you should go soon before everything gets knocked down and china-fied. Oh and before they kill everybody. Aaaaand I'm being serious.

Creep licked me wooo!!

I had my hopes up that there'd be a Yeti, so needless to say was disappointed.

I've always wanted to go to Tibet. Is the weather as pleasant as they say it is?

Dude, it's okay, you don't have to +2 anything. I think the bottom one blows - if I had more time I could have gotten all of the little ornate thingies on it. The only reason I sketched it was because it was all golden and green and pretty and um yeah that doesn't really work out well in pencil.

Ah! Then you are golden. I like the bottom one better, but that's just me.
Sorry to spoil your streak of 2's. I'll +2 your last post or something.

I had probably close to an hour on the top one, but the jokhang one was rushed. That was a little less than a half hour or something. The guy I was with wanted to move on to another part of the building, the bastard. I did shorter sketches of other places, but we never had time to really sit around and enjoy much of anything - the nature of an itinerary.
