Season 4 of OZ comes out today. This is why you fucking maniacs should care.
In case you didn't know, OZ is a prison drama. It takes place solely in a wing of the OZ penitentiary called Emerald City. It has some of the most clever and intriguing characters and plots ever displayed on TV.
It's pretty much Latinos vs Blacks vs Aryans vs Italians vs Muslims vs Christians vs Guards/Staff vs Government.
OZ is one of the greatest displays of modern acting. Outside of two to three actors, all of the actors are former theatre actors. Each has worked with different methods and styles - mostly Shakespeare. Of course, Shakespeare doesn't necessarily gage their skill, more so their dedication.
The script is, of course, perfect. HBO always manages to leave their shows completely in the hands of writers - which is why it has and will succeed.
Fuck writing about my opinion - let me just leave you with some choice OZ moments and lines.
-a man falls in love with the prison nurse and has his brother kill her husband (his brother is later brought to Emerald City).
-two men put ground up glass in the 1st Italian boss' food, who later hemorrhages from his eyes and ears in the middle of everything.
-a man works in the AIDs ward so he can infect a needle and poke the 2nd Italian boss
-a man is crucified
-a man falls in love with another man, who later has his arms and legs broken
-two Italians make a move on an African man, Adebisi, who beats them both and, well, rapes them.
-a man slashes a guard's face with his heavily filed nails
-a guard has his eyes cut out
-a man has his cock bitten off trying to force a blowjob from another (the biter then spat the top of the cock across the cameras range and onto the floor).
-a man gets crapped on
On death row in OZ, you can choose your own execution. Choices were:
-firing squad
-hanging
-lethal injection
-stoning
-chair

I miss OZ. Sometimes it was over-the-top with the prison sex stuff, but a good show noe the less.
I worked with a guy that looked alot like Cyril O'Reily, but with redish hair.

I agree completely - I LOVE that show... most of my friends think I'm just some sick fuck, but it really is a well written show that draws you into its characters and makes them really believable.
I have two complaints though...
One is that the season finale in my opinion was a lil weak. They build up the show for six years, and I would've expected more from the end.
I guess people say the same for Seinfeld...
Two is that it is the SLOWEST tv - dvd show know to man. When sex in the city ended its run they had 95% on dvd in a matter of months. Oz ended what? 2 years ago? They just now are coming out with season 4 and it will be many more months before we even hear about season 5 being released. C'mon Tom Fontana - Speed it up a bit! (just in case tom reads this :))
