The knob turned slowly, creaking with every inch gained. Jim peered through the crack into the darkened room, shadows dancing along the walls from the fireplace on the far wall. The room was austere, Victorian even. The chairs were hand-carved and the couch looked as if it had seen better days. But what caught Jim's attention was the frail figure sitting on a chair the middle of the room, head bent forward, long red locks of hair cascading around her pale face. He gasped.

"Sure, it's no problem," Jim had said earlier that day, eyeing a picture of Amy as he spoke to her.
"W-Wow Jim, t-thanks I really appreciate it. This place really creeps me out." Even through the phone line Jim could imagine Amy's worried face casting a nervous look around her as she spoke.
"Yeah, Amy you sound really frightened, why not just ditch the place? Come over here...we can have a nice night together."
"Haha that's funny, Romeo, but you know I wouldn't go back on my word, I said I would house sit for Mrs. Henseen and I will. And plus....wait a minute I think someone is at the door.
With that Amy left the receiver on the table and walked into the main hall. Jim heard her steps creak on the old hardwood. He heard her muffled voice and then a shout of pure, unadulterated terror.

Jim's face turned sheet white as he saw her sitting there, vunerable and silent.
"A-Amy...? What the hell is going on? What was that scream earlier?" He tried to keep his voice calm and collected for his girlfriend but he knew it sounded scared and strained.
"They came."
"What....who the hell are they?"
"Jim...run while you can, please. Go to the beach and listen to the waves and the gulls and the..."
Jim interrupted her, "Amy what the fuck is going on!"
And then the fire went out with a hiss and in the dark he could feel figures moving towards him.
"Jim...its Them."

yeah, youre right but its the first part to a series so i thought i might be able to get away with something a bit shorter. If this gets good reviews i'll make a second part which will be much longer.

Interesting, although a bit too short.
