What are the millitary rankings? How do they go? Like whats highest and whats lowest? I have been seeing all these rankings on the news, I just want to be enlightened

I am not sure what the insignia is for this rank, but last i heard it was being changed due to it being bigger than the actual person wearing it.

(RET) means retired, in which case this person regardless of their former service has no more knowledge about the current operations in iraq than you do.
i'm not saying that they don't have valid insight, they are certainly more in touch with what the military does than a civilian, but they don't know anything about the real battle plans and shouldn't be talking like they do.
