Her mind races as she shuffles. The rules say she's supposed to think about something specific. Some answer she's looking for. But it's too hard to search for an answer when you aren't even sure what the question is.
One specific thought she does have, like a moment of piercing light in a blackout, is that it's pretty fucking ridiculous to turn to Tarot cards at a time like this.
But with all other resources exhausted, she turns to them anyway.
Painstakingly she lays them out, reciting each position to herself as she places the card there face down. Mother, Father, What Holds You Back, How You Move Foreward, Heart Center, Conscious Mind, Sub-conscious Mind....
With a deep breath she flips the first card. The Priestess in the position of Self. She's guarded, alone. Holding back her emotions, trying to protect herself.
No surprises there.
The next space is Sub-conscious Mind. What's going on underneath. It's the Tower. Destruction, desolation. Everything falling apart.
Angry, she scraps the reading and begins to shuffle again.
Again, she lays the cards out. Hoping for some good news. Hoping for an explanation. Again the Tower appears, this time in the place of her Conscious Mind. It's a self-fullfilling prophesy. If the Tower shows up in your Sub-conscious, of course you start thinking about it, of course it travels to your Conscious Mind. Being reminded of insanity doesn't make it go away.
She scraps the reading again.
This time, before shuffling, she puts the Tower card at the bottom of the deck.
This time, the Devil card appears instead.
She throws the deck away from her and fights back tears.
Why?
Why does she spend hours laying the cards out over and over trying to find a reading that made sense? Why couldn't she find one?
Because the cards don't work that way. They can't be read like that.
Then why does she try?
Because everything is so fucked up in her head that she just wants something to be in control. She knows she is out of control and out of her mind. But maybe... just maybe if those cards are controlled by some supernatural force... maybe that force has got her brain in it's grasp too. And if that force understands what's in her head, maybe the fucker would just give her a reading that makes her feel better.
But it isn't, and it doesn't.
So she shuffles again.
Silently begging for a moment of clarity that will never come.

I maded my own cardy cards.
They are all happy sunshiny birds flowers hearts pretty kitten happy happy cards.
I did them this morning and they sayded that I am going to be a pretty kitten with a flower up my bumhole.
But now there is a bad card with a bad man on it and it is not happy or a kitty so I shall have to make new ones.
With rainbows.
