In a way.
But I'm happy.
About five years ago I was unceremoniously fired from a job, a crap job at that. It left me a little bitter and jaded.
It was part of my job to reconcile some accounts, and in doing so I think I made the GM nervous. She would instruct me to do things that I thought were wrong by instinct, but I was no accountant and had no training at the time.
Now I have a Master's Degree in business, and what I thought she was doing was wrong I now know was wrong, but not at the time.
The company ran two sets of books.
She would blame me for mistakes, she would talk about me behind my back and all her problems were directed as me as the cause. She became so bold in her aggression that she would speak openly with her office door open - I could hear her lying to people and making statements like "he's a complete failure", "utter moron" and "don't worry, I will punish him".
Punish???
In an attempt to float the company, consultants were brought in and complete strangers would walk by my office, look at me and shake their heads. I was made a scapegoat, I was ridiculed, belittled and bullied. The only thing I wasn't blamed for was her endometriosis, but I think she looked in to a way to do so.
She was off sick and out of nowhere the MD called me in to his office and fired me. No warnings, no compliance with the law, nothing. I could have gone to the tribunal with a clear case for unfair dismissal (which I would have won), but it really wasn't worth it, it's not my style, the company was no paradise and their way of doing business was terrible. Bad result.
I was fired at 9am, I got on the phone to my favourite employment agency and got a new job by 10am, then went on to become their "Contractor of the Year" - good result.
I heard a while later that the company that fired me in a crappy way went under, and it was no surprise. I felt glad, but not thrilled for all the workers who lost their jobs. Most of them were IT geeks with maybe one social skill between them, but I have heard they have all moved on successfully despite that. Good result.
Just recently I heard that there were some other legal proceedings against the woman that got the MD to fire me. So I googled. Without wishing to sound nasty, the courts had their way, so did karma.
Nothing could make me happier than reading:
"Karabatsas dishonestly obtained an advantage for Triple One in the sum of $645,605.88," ASIC said.
She was sentenced on Friday, 6 February, in the County Court of Victoria to 18 months in prison, suspended.
Another Former Triple One director, Timothy Wilks, pleaded guilty in the Melbourne Magistrates Court on 2 February of two counts of using his position as a director dishonestly to gain an advantage for himself or another in contravention of the Corporations Act.
"The court ... found that on 1 October 2001, Mr Wilks used his position dishonestly to transfer $50,000 from Triple One's bank to an account in his own name, with the money then used to repay a loan that a family member had advanced to the company," ASIC said."
Good result.

Ivy, that's bonkers. I wasn't happy with the way they went about what they did, but fuck 'em... Karma sorts them out in the end.
Greedy, useless bastards the lot of 'em!

See, leave it up to karma. A girl got fired from my work last week and went ballistic. Sent an e-mail to the boss's wife saying he sleeps with prostitutes, then went to two of our clients, made up some lies and tried to get them to fire us. Instead they called and asked who the crazy girl in their office was. Some people are nuts.
