I just read about this...

It's been a while since I put the whole RIAA/piracy thing in perspective, and this article just disgusts me. Suppose you'd like to know why, wouldn't you?

Well, it's not that they're taking down Class, which was up until recently one of my top sources looking for middle to older games that would run on my computer that I wouldn't have to pay hideous collector fees for. It's not that they're moving multinationally and globally, which essentially eliminates the statute of diplomatic immunity and international jurisdiction. It's not even that they're grossly overestimating the value of the pirated software and media just to scare the public in a manner befitting the Gestapo.

What really pisses me off is this:
Conservative projections of the losses to industry attributable to these distribution hubs are in the hundreds of millions of dollars.

The one thing I hate about these "operations" or "investigations" or "seizures" is that Hollywood and its subsidiaries are blowing the entire thing out of proportion. They're still making a profit, right? If they weren't, they'd close their doors, because all they are is a giant, rich pack of money-hungry dogs, brain-dead and numb to the world. If they realized that it's their fault piracy happens, then maybe they could put a stop to it through more diplomatic methods. The last time I checked, diplomacy WAS America's first policy when combatting international threats to our freedom and/or economy, right?

Well, let's think. We did give diplomacy a try in Iraq...more than a decade ago. Sure, we had patience with them. We did give diplomacy a try in Afghanistan, right? Not to my recollection. Actually, it's my recollection that we just shipped out our young men and women straight onto the "front line" to die for a regime who half the country disapproves of anyway...

Not only does the sharp and harsh move by Washington offend me, but the amount of exaggeration by the movie industry is almost sickening. Just because a few hundred people (yes, there really are only a few hundred people who seriously download movies) download lots of movies off the internet, they aren't losing hundreds of millions of dollars. Even if they were, that's just peanuts compared to the projected $450 billion of income they're expecting this year alone. Why do they complain? Let me tell you a quick story.

There once was a man who pinched every penny, even though me had loads of money to his name. He made a poor man work through Christmas without seeing his family or eating dinner with them. He was visited by three ghosts in the night on Christmas Eve and it changed his life. Does Hollywood need such an epiphany? I believe so.

In closing, I'd just like to say that the next time I see an article like the one listed above, I will vomit. Several times. In succession. Onto Ashcroft's face.

P.S. give me liberty or give me death

How I have been left alone by the RIAA is TOTALLY beyond me.

100Gig of just music.

Sure, about 1/2 of it was bought and paid for by me, but I leave LimeWire open quite often for people to take whatever they want.

Jackoff, how do you equate the act of war to your loss of ability to steal (i.e.
not pay for)music, games etc.

i equate it like this: the US is attacking piracy in much the same way as it's attacking terrorism, i.e. with little to no warning and with unreasonable and ineffective methods.

shitface.

go hang yourself.

by the way-the middle east conflict isn't even technically a conflict, as we're not fighting an organized force. what we have is a strategic occupation, since we've seized control it's no longer an invasion.

shitface.

I hate all this RIAA bullshit. How many people have they busted, though? No one really pays attention to them. But what they should really consider (at least music-wise) is that downloading songs can actually boost bands' profit because if you like the music, you might end up buying a CD or two (if you're too lazy to burn), and buying their merch and concert tickets and such.

plastic, metal, same point-would you spend 20 bucks on that?
hell, who doesn't burn cds? it can still help a band

2 things:
1) cds are pressed on plastic discs
2) i have, on more than one occasion, lost a cd and replaced it with a burnt copy from pirated mp3s

Do they really expect us to pay 20 bucks for a piece of metal? Christ concert tickets are cheaper than that.

Interesting, but only +1 because I was hoping for a gory picture when I saw the title.
