You call last minute, because you have nothing else to do. Expecting me to rush over to entertain you and your friends like a hired clown. Sitting, smirking, knowing everything is going to be alright.
So I miss a call or two. Maybe I don't get back to you until the day is done, or the next one begins. You leave messages in rapid succession. First, worry. Worry that I've been in an accident. Then indifference. You don't care what I'm doing, and you aren't trying to keep "tabs" on me. Finally, hate. Unmitigated hate and contempt that I wouldn't jump on the phone, leave what I was doing, and amuse you.
This is not how I play the game. You are not going to change me.
Parties are a repellant to you, and accuse me of being "Mr. Cool" because I socialize. Everyday with accusations. "You slept with HER, didn't you?" No. I haven't. Its not my fault you are anti social and choose not to make new friends. Maybe you can live like that, but not me.
Helping, offering, and understanding. These are things I gave to you.
Suspicion, ridicule, accusations. These are things you gave to me.
I can not help you with your insecurities, and I can not fix all of your problems.
You know its sick. Sick to think that I can save you, or I can break you. I've neglected my friends long enough, and endured the pain of losing some because of you. Never again will I stick up for you, only to be treated with disrespect.
Never again will I allow myself to fall in the eyes of other from what you said. Nothing you say or do could ever make me love you again.
I am happier without you in my life. Jokes have never been funnier, the sun has never been so bright, and friends have never been so warm.
You have taught me one thing. People don't change. Its not just me. I can not save anyone. You can only save yourself.
Don't believe in me. I will let you down.
