The whole marriage was a mistake and everybody knew that but them. They were so happy with their decision and no amount of skepticism from their families and friends could change that. It hurt her that her family disapproved so much but she knew nothing would change that. She understood marrying a man she knew for only a month was insane but for some reason she couldn't talk herself out of it.

She couldn't face her parents with the news so she revealed it in the most cowardly way possible. She cried as she typed out her 3-page letter full of apologies and 'I love yous'. She knew that no amount of begging and reassurance would be enough to break this news gently to her parents. As her parents went to sleep she left the note on the coffee table in the living room, packed some of her things, and left quietly, being careful not to alert their dogs. She was sure to leave her contact information so her parents could contact her when they were ready. She looked to her parents bedroom door and whispered an apology one more time as she silently slipped out the front door.

About 45 minutes later she arrived at her lovers hotel. He was a traveling man from halfway across the country but for now he was staying a short distance from her home in the neighboring town. She pulled the hotel key he gave her from her purse and entered his room. He was expecting her but by now he was sound asleep since he had to be awake for work within a few hours. She crawled into bed with him and laid her head on his chest. She felt slightly comforted by his warm skin and the sound of his beating heart but she still caught herself listening for the phone all night and she didn't fall asleep for one second. The nerves caused her stomach to hurt so badly she couldn't have slept if she wanted to.

He woke up in the morning somewhat surprised to see her there beside him. He smiled and kissed her forehead before getting up to shower. He had begged her so many times to come be with him but time after time she told him no. He wasn't sure if she was afraid of hurting her parents of if she was afraid of her parents hurting her. She had an unnatural fear of her mother but he wasn't all too certain why.

She pretended to be asleep as he dressed and left for work. Once he was gone she sat up and pulled a phonebook from the table beside their bed. She leafed through the pages not exactly sure what to look for but with a general idea of what she wanted.

"Ah," she half smiled as she picked up the phone beside her. She dialed the number and took a deep breath. Her stomach started to turn again as a woman picked up the phone. "Hello?" She swallowed deeply trying to clear her throat before she spoke, "Yes, I found your name in the phonebook. My fiancé, "The word stuck in her throat. How could she even call him that when they've only known each other for weeks? She swallowed again and continued on, "We, uh, We wanted to have a small wedding. No one will be there besides us and maybe one friend."

The woman assured her it would be no problem and her husband regularly performed such weddings. They set up an appointment for the next day at noon. She sighed heavily and put the phone down making a note on her stack of papers that they were to be married tomorrow at noon. She left the note in the middle of their bed for him to find when he returned from his days work. She dressed quickly and left the hotel room to clear her head.

Thank you, Teephphah. I think I'll give it a little time and try again soon.

Holz - this IS really good. Maybe that's because I read it after learning where it was going, but still. It IS good.

If it is hard to write, I understand, but you should keep going . . . at least, I think so.
