An excellent story and one of Denzel's best performances!
A boxer, Rubin "Hurricate" Carter, is wrongly imprisoned for murder in a
racially motivated case from 1967. This is his story.
A buffed up Denzel Washington plays Rubin Carter, a New Jersey boxer from the
1960's whose life was filled with racially motivated run ins with the law.
His career was eventually cut short by a murder conviction brought by chief
investigator, Nick Tortelli from Cheers. In Canada, a high school student
happens upon the story of Rubin Carter and decides to get involved.
The movie includes outstanding performances from Denzel, the student, and a
host of other characters including the head guard from Shawshank. There are
several heartfelt scenes of dialog between the student and Hurricane that
will haunt your memory. One scene reveals the inner thoughts of Hurricane
by using three Denzels: the real Hurricane, the tough Hurricane, and the
scared Hurricane. Very few actors could have pulled off this scene
successfully, and Denzel definitely did.
This movie gets a 5 our of 5 rating. Especially compared to anything other
new movies in the theater, this is the best.
