As I sat on the bus today I noticed that everyone was wearing a shirt with it's brand name clearly blazoned across their chest. I moved to the front of said bus and started to listen to Dark Side of The Moon. As the album slid from Time to The Great Gig in the Sky, I realised with a resentment burning like Gonorrhea that this album would never ever be made today. This album for anyone who doesn't have it; is brilliant. It contains probably the greatest guitar solo of all time, the album hums like a single song, and while its lyrics aren't very deep they're honest, which is scarce in any music.
Dark side of the moon was in the top 100 for over 720 WEEKS. If 50 cent's next album does this well I'll eat my left nut. There's something sick to the core at the music business. And it's this, it's the fucking core. The whole system of music is ruled by statistics. What is selling is ritually whored to the stupid have the musical sense of my left testicle (I love that guy). I don't have the best taste in music, but one thing I do know, for the past 40 years the number of classic albums that have been the music industries first choice has dwindled to nothing. Talented bands have become flaccid and conventional. Since I'm not exactly telling anyone anything they don't know here I'll be blunt: It's not going to get any better ever. The next revolution will be the same as the old one until one thing happens, we have a single music company. Sony seems to be the most likely to do this because they gain their revenue from a dependable source: software. Music isn't dependable, it never will be. It's barely dependable enough to run a business on as it is.
Pop Stars are not the most important people in the world but they might as well be. Music companies focuses on the individual so the individual must be bigger than any other to outsell them. Thanks to MTV no ugly person will ever be able to be truly huge; ugly superstars like chemical brothers no longer can appear anywhere near a TV.
Devoid of truly talented individuals to make their music, the industry is going through phases faster than a company's expense account who let a hooker into a board meeting. If you haven't noticed the average phase lasts 3-5 albums from its biggest star. No one can expect more than three classic albums, but the river of crap imitators that have been built up to emulate this initial Adonis are fucked once the dam bursts. Anyone who seriously thinks rap is going to last another five years is wrong.
Like an erection, the music industry will rise again with a new load, but its going to be the same gyp.
Big corporations are heartless, but multinational corporations are soulless. Many companies now define culture more than history, geography or literature. Americanisation is really just capitalism. If you are rich it is because someone else is poor, the best companies raise prices, rip off their employees and reduce their quality. Profit does not mean that your company is better, it mean's somewhere someone was getting ripped off. If your profit is huge you are fucking everyone. Not only do we all work for those who are ripping us off but we also buy the products that are fucking us too.
The more a company spends on advertising without being different to a competitor who doesn't, the worse it is.
Dark side of the moon launched Pink Floyd and they used their fame and success to complete two concept albums that were even better; Wish you were Here and The Wall. Neither would get made today, because Dark Side, would never get made. Music no matter how homogenized will never be completely shackled. But the monopoly that a company has over its products with no regard for its consumers will destroy anything. Music lost anything resembling freedom along time ago, it is now simply another aisle in a supermarket. Yet everything is music, we are just expected to be more passionate about music than ham. The world is dead, it has no soul.

The Pope agrees: Dark Side of the Moon Rules. And nothing really like it will ever happen again.

pseudo-elitist crap. Dark Side was decent. Has some good stuff on it, but there are several songs I skip over. The Wall...beh. Not worth digging that out to listen to it.
I'm just glad you didnt say you liked A Momentary Lapse of Reason.
