Please, I am fucking tired of hearing so many god dam excuses for the rampant fattening of Americans. Listen, if your okay being fat, FINE, everyone needs a hook to be remembered by. If you don't mind being so heavy that you have developed your own orbit, and effect the tides, god bless you.
However, there are a couple points here that irk me. Most people are not fat because its in the genes, that is the most asinine excuse I have ever heard.
Simply put, evolution has carved the human being into a bio machine that can adapt well to almost every environment. Just look at the discovery cannel to verify this. Being a fattass makes you less suitable for survival outside of your cubicle and condo. You can walk up the stairs? Great. Can you maintain a moderate level of activity for an hour? Likely not. The human being was designed to physically work at a moderate level for a good part of the day, if you can't do this, then you are not healthy.
Secondly, stop blaming the media and males for forcing the "supermodel" image on you. Shut the fuck up and take some responsibility. Stop blaming vouge magazine for your anorexia, if you had a shred of an identity you wouldn't be trying to mold yourself after a magazine.
Thirdly, feeling depressed because you diet didn't work? Want to get a big mac? Shut the fuck up.
Exercise coupled with a moderate diet is the most effective way to lose weight. Just go for a walk everyday, instead of trying to cut 1000 calories out of you diet.
Lastly, the reason why most people are fat, is because in the last hundred years the majority of jobs have moved from labor oriented to sedentary. We stopped pulling a plow, and started sitting at a desk. The only thing was...we kept eating like we were going out to the fields all day.

Interesting fact (or maybe not):
It has been speculated that melanesian people exhibit a high tendency towards obesity because of the way in which their ancestors chose to migrate.
Basically, since most melanesian islands were populated by people who undertook long sea journeys to reach their destination, many of the people with fast metabolisms, who retained smaller percentages of the fat they consumed, died during the long and arduous voyages.
Therefore, the people who made it to the islands were the people with a tendency to store a higher proportion of the food they ingested than the average human being, and, over the generations, this characteristic has come to the fore among the inhabitants of the south pacific.
So, in that case, the explanation really is genetic.

Hungover -
If you plug this:
"The social flip, democrates/cons."
into this:
"their is certainly discrimination against the obese, and that this hidden discrimination/hatred, is not recognized under the normal discrimination protections, ie race, sex pref, ect."
you get the double-standard I'm talking about.
It may be an Uber-specific thing, but I see the people who usually try to make a big deal about protecting others from discriminatin & hatred turning on a dime and, while maybe not "hating" or "discriminating" in a de facto sense AT LEAST begining to take the first little baby-steps in that direction. Bringing out what in another context would be considered "hate speech."
Like I said . . . fascinating.

Yo-yo weight is the worst thing ever. Someday it'll stop working.
Hit a gym and once you've built sufficient muscle mass, eat well and oftenly, do a bit of cardio on an empty stomach (in the morning 2-3 times a week) and you won't ever have to think about your weight anymore. Even if you eat ridiculous amount of chocolate for a short period. It took me less than one year to get in waaaaaaaaaay better shape, mentally and physically.

Teephphah, I don't know if we just are not on the same wave length here, or if i am just not that bright. The social flip, democrates/cons. is an interesting one, and one I have not thought of.
If, by playing devils advocate you hoped to provide evidence that their is certainly discrimination against the obese, and that this hidden discrimination/hatred, is not recognized under the normal discrimination protections, ie race, sex pref, ect. Than you met your goal with flying colors.
However I am still not getting the double standard thing?

I'm not here to dictate to anyone how to live, however it is irratating to me to hear someone that is overwieght say that it is a genetic issue while they gobble down a pbcup sunday.
It is a bit hypocratical isn't it?
I don't blame the tobbacco company for my cig habit. I have not sued Sam adams because I like to drink beer. If I liked to eat a bag or oreo's I wouldn't blame nabisco.
If you like the way you are fine. If not do something about it and stop making excuses. That is my point.

Hungover - I'm not offended. Well, not personally. Intellectually a little. But that's because of the logical double-standard that I pointed out. And it isn't just YOU who does this, so don't feel bad. It is all over the place. I wrote a post called "Stop the Insanity" a while back trying to point out just this sort of thing.
I took on the persona of a fat person (I'm not fat in real life) and used the EXACT same arguments that someone would use in justifying ANY OTHER "alternate lifestyle." You know what the response was? "Quit whining you fat, weak-willed bastard."
Honestly, this issue fascinates me - from a sociological standpoint. It seems that THIS one issue takes the usual suspects of the day in terms political or philosophical ideology (liberal/conservative) and forces them to completely switch sides. You should have the "liberal" side clammoring for the "freedom of choice" on the part of the individual and have the "conservatives" trying to tell them how to live their private lives . . . but that ISN'T what happens. (For the most part, and based solely on my personal observations.) Just the opposite actually.
Liberals start saying, "well I have to pay for all that."
Conservatives start saying, "What about 'freedom?'"
I'm just wired a little strangely, so I think this is one of the most interesting things in the world right now. So, sorry if I'm coming across as hostile, that's not my intent. I just love the debate - and the interplay between ideologies - especially when framed by this issue. My previous rankings were only to show that I thought that you hadn't covered "both sides" of the issue. Aside from your, "if you are happy the way you are, fine," thing, which didn't smell entirely sincere. I could be off base there, though.

WhoLetYouIn - I'm sorry dude. But this morning again, I've been blocked by yet ANOTHER fat person who could barely climb small stairs. It frustrates me to no end. I'll gladly help someone in a wheelchair but being morbidly obese is a self-indulged handicap that doesn't appear overnight. You actually see yourself growing in size, so you CAN reverse it (in 95% of the cases, I'm sure).
I'm prone to gain weight. I did once, not much though. I quickly reacted. Why do I have to work out 4-5 days a week and walk A LOT so I can stay fit and avoid being an urban organic nuisance while they won't? It pisses me off. I guess that explain my extreme "solutions".
===================
Hey, I'm the first one to admit that being fat is not pretty.
I mean, there are always exceptions...but I mean the people with rolls...ON THEIR ARMS. That's gross.
I'm just saying it's all right to get angry, but it's difficult to do anything unless you make the individuals change their mind and I just don't think that making pariahs out of people (unless they're something like 300+ pounds [women]) is just...not productive. Then again, not much is changing. It's a difficult issue to solve without putting people to action....
I dunno. I don't really give a toss anymore.

Actually Caul, the justification for banning smoking in public is usually the health risk from second-hand smoke. Why people use the term "inconvenience" instead of "you're giving me cancer, asshole," I've never quite understood.
Nevertheless, the health risk is the justification. There is no second-hand Twinkie high, though, so as far as I can tell, Fatty should be okay.
SHOULD be. Except for the people who want to tell her how to live.
Hungover - so then it's a freedom of speech issue? They shouldn't be complaining? Got it. That should be MUCH easier to defend on your end.
I swear, the more I think about this issue, the more I am convinced that the REAL reason for it, is that fat people are ugly. Plain and simple. We should lock 'em all up the way we do with those retards who are like, you know, EXTRA retarded and all creepy-like. They make me uncomfortable.

OK, I didn't consider the increased health-care costs argument. This is valid and it should be addressed. It still doesn't make it OK to be mean to fat people, though. The aging population is contributing to rising health-care costs too - that doesn't make it OK to walk up to an old lady and say "Damn, you are one old-ass bitch. Why don't you die already?"
==============
Another couple of ways overweight people affect others:
Spill-over in airline seats. I payed for this seat, I did not pay for you to share it with me.
Increased airline ticket costs due to higher average weight of occupants, thus higher fuel usage.
Increased clothing costs. Since a wider range of sizes are made available to accommodate people of larger size there are increased costs from holding a larger inventory and transporting these larger garments.
It's obvious to anyone paying attention that the average weight of many Americans (and some Europeans) has increased significantly over the past century. This is not a result of an increase of diseases that cause obesity but a concious decision of people to eat more and exercise less.

Should they ban fat fuck from entering public places because they stall the circulation and small bad and scrap the view? Yes.

Frankly, if your government is paying for health care and you don't want to pay for other people's choices...well...guess what? I guess you're going to have to live with it. Everyone is privy to their own choices. It's called free will.
Is being fat unhealthy? Yes. I personally don't think being grossly obese is a sign of a good personality trait. However, YOU cannot make people change just because you want to. It's none of your fucking business.
Unless you make a system where people who are a risk to themselves get the full brunt and consequences of their actions, then you're just going to have to live with it...Or put a gun to their head and make them take that ring-ding out of their mouths.
But that would be the humane thing to do.

There is sooooo much of a double standard on this issue. It makes me sick whenever I see it.
Just try to think about this logically for a second - Being fat is bad, right? That's the "maxim," the undeniable truth that all of this is based on. It's true because being fat is "unhealthy." But so is smoking. So is drinking. So are LOTS of things that people can do to and with their bodies.
MOST of those things, MOST people on Uber would defend to the death. Do you have a RIGHT to put whatever substances you want to into your body? HELL YES! The masses declare, thinking about pot and LSD, but not about cheese frenchies.
Do you have the right to use your body in any way you choose? HELL YES! the masses declare, thinking about anal sex and blowjobs, but not about NOT working out.
"Eat right, exercise and quit whining" is the same fucking thing as "You can't have teh ghey sex, you can't do drugs and quit bitching" just in reverse.
There may be some truth in the argument that obesity is far more prevelant than those other things, but that is only trying to distract from the issue of individual liberty. Health care costs for fat folks draging you down? By all means, don't over-haul the health-care system that is "victimizing" you (tacit concent anyone?) just tell "Fatty Faterson" how to live her life.
Problem solved. Easy as pie. Which you had better eat quick, because we're going to make it illegal soon. Obviously you can't be trusted to know what is in your own best interest.

From age 10-14 I was fat. I changed that many many years ago. I started out with not having a problem with fat people until THEY started having a problem with me.
I'm sick of fat people (mostly other women but a fair amount of men too) who give me dirty looks at the supermarket when I select my fresh fruit, veggies, and fish. I'm sick of fat people's hatred every time I load my bicycle up on the back of my car to go biking at the trail. I'm sick of fat women who work at clothing stores who are rude to me when I buy small clothes.
I was never a bitch towards them. In fact, I usually try to keep to myself. But since fat people have a problem towards me, then all bets are off.
So, to all fatties: Fuck you, you fat sow; Fuck off, Fat Boy, go eat a pizza.
