(I think the file size on the first one was much too large, so i'm trying this again.)
I don't know how widespread these things are, but if you don't know about Homies, they're these little plastic figurines of ghetto characters that you can get in the 25 cent gumball-style machines in department store foyers and fast food joints. A while ago I was visiting my parents and I pointed out how ridiculous they were. Since then, they've bought a bunch of them and sent them to me. Truly great people, my parents.
It should be pointed out here that I live in small midwestern town. I don't know who around here buys these things without irony. Maybe no one anywhere does.
Anyway, I decided that instead of just letting them accumulate and increasing my chances of getting capped, I would let my plastic posse benefit from my own liberal arts education and put their thug asses through the basics of Shakespeare.
It took several months of rehearsing, patiently explaining that no one's momma is a thespian, and coping with the tragic shooting of our lighting technician when the lead actor mistook the spotlight for "tha po-lice," but we've come a long way and we're finally ready for opening night. They've made me so proud.
True to Shakespearean tradition, the female roles will be played by men (also owing to the fact that I don't have any female Homies... yet).
Apologies to the Italian-, Latin-, and African-American communities, William Shakespeare, theater lovers everywhere, and the pope, just for good measure.
