I remember hearing all through my later school years how the cigarette companies are trying to hook me on smoking with just a mere puff in order to replace the dying smokers. DuMaurier, Player's and especially Craven 'A' were trying to market themselves to me by fostering images of rebellion and independence.

This, however, carried very little merit in my mind when I went down the street to grab a three dollar McDonald's special, or split a gigantic $10 pepperoni pizza with a friend or two.

Why is it that cigarette companies aren't allowed to market to youth, or at all for that matter, when the artery-clogging fast food industry can motivate youth to be as obese as they dream!

Anybody see the movie 'Supersize Me'? It was a documentary where a man, maybe in his late twenties and in excellent shape decided to eat nothing but McDonald's for 30 days straight. The problems that he encountered with regards to his body were unbelievable. He gained over a pound a day, not to mention encountered plenty of various physical and mental health problems. It's a movie I would urge everyone to see, it exposes McDonald's for being the cancer causing agent that it really is and confirms what everyone believes about the fast food giant.

Recently, I've noticed McDonald's is doing a lot of promotional advertising towards younger people, mostly to high school kids I would think. It's completely unquestionable that their marketing gimmicks pay off, at least from my experience when you're trying to make a dollar go far, McDonald's doesn't help much by telling me I can get two cheeseburgers for two dollars.

No wonder the under 18 crowd has a weight problem in general today. I think more restrictions should be placed on fast food advertising and on fast food in general. Portions are getting bigger and bigger, and so are the kids of today.

There are a lot of other things which I think are the reasons the generation below me are more overweight...easier access to soda and candy with vending machines, elevators in the schools, more fast food in the market, no mandatory physical education...I'm not saying we should force them on a treadmill or anything, but perhaps we should make it a little harder for them to acquire their sweets?

I know some of you by this point are probably thinking 'Uh, excuse me, who the hell are you to tell me what I can and can't eat? Also, I'll feed my kid whatever I goddam want!'. All I'm saying is that with all the restrictions and stigmatization of tobacco, do you think perhaps some of the pressure needs to be taken off of cigarettes and put on to other things? Some of these things in my mind are far worse than cigarette smoking.

Speaking of which, when I was 8 years old, the most violent game around was 'Streets of Rage' where you played a poorly animated character who ran around punching the 'bad guys'. Now, they've got 'free roam' video games where you can walk around as a real life sort of person and beat up anyone from the law authorities to old bag ladies.

I would not really feel comfortable seeing my kid eat a Big Mac nor smoking a cigarette, but given the choice in today's world, I'd definitely take the cigarette.

Coming from chapped dick I take that as a compliment.

PS - You are reaaally ugly. And I got drunk and got hit on by a waitress this afternoon. While smoking. So I'm in a pretty good mood.

well, yeah... i guess that's amazing that someone would have a lot of problems if they only ate fast food for thirty straight days.

although, if you only ate chicken for thirty straight days, you'd have a lot of problems too.

Wasn't the point...if you can't read, I don't know why you're on a 'sensitive writers' website.

The only two posts I ever got solid +2s (and actually deserved it) was one where I was drunk and was writing about my weight loss pain and one where I came back from the Iraqi protest in Ottawa and was pretty fucking pissed off.

I wrote this on a whim. It's not great, but despite it's flaws it's worth at least a 0. Maybe a 1.

Then again if I gave two shits about my rating (which I don't, I mean come on, really, what does it matter) I would post a picture of a hot girl masturbating. Auto +2s.

Within the parameters that you set forth........maybe...huge issues at hand here. I would worry about protecting the public after protecting the public's rights.....a lot of bad things happen when people act under the premise of protecting other people..rarely have bad things happened when people act to protect other people's rights...Just my two cents.

So apparently, being fat is both the fault of genetics (when you're trying to lose it) and the subliminal tactics of the fast food industry (when you have to explain being it). Fuck the double standard and FUCK YOU.

The cigarettes I mentioned are Canadian. From my knowledge you can get Player's in other countries, but definitely not DuMauriers.

By the way to the jackass who said get off your soapbox-Podium is the brand I smoked. Very rare. Those were rich.

Cheers to being on most heated and pissing off so many computer geeks in one night.

Jeers to not getting any sleep and slacking off on my paper because of it.

Well, I have seen supersize me, I love my cheeseburgers (as my gut would show you), AND I smoke. I don't think that they should moderate fast food advertising... people should know whether or not to eat McDonald's everyday. Yes, it's bad for you, as is smoking, but you can't assume that getting rid of advertising will make less kids eat Mickey D's. My whole career of smoking has taken place after (in canada) they banned advertising cigarettes on tv, on billboards, etc. I still smoke. Shit, we used to have people come to school and tell us not to smoke. I still do it. I eat cheeseburgers at mcdonald's because they fill a craving. playing pool at the bar, end up at mcD's eating gross food. Eat it during lunch because woke up too late to pack a lunch. I'm going to stop before i start rambling on stupidly (which I'm doing). I guess my point is..... well... ah fuck it, i dont have a point. Everything in moderation.

I find it hilarious that this became a political issue. Government has no place telling people what they can and cannot ingest. Hey, if you want to eat styrofoam and wash it down with gasoline, knock yourself out!

To the person that said "This is all W's fault"; pull your head out of your ass.

To the person that said "This is all Mike Moore's fault"; pull your head out of your ass - he had nothing to do with Super Size Me...unless he is the "after" photo.

Responsible parenting and behavior do not need federal regulations.

Fuck that bullshit.

This is something just like California does...they think they have a good idea and then fuck themselves in the ass and cry about it later. They pulled all the soda & snack machine food considered "junk". Now guess what? Nobody buys 1/2 the shit in the machines and they don't have money coming in that used to be a good source of income. DOH!!! If they are willing to put up with that, fine...I have no problem with that. But they bitch about it and then winding up taxing people more to make up the difference...fucking greedy fucks.

Put regulations on what can be advertised on TV and you are going right into the "freedom of speech" area as far as I'm concerned. Typical democrat shit....they cry freedom of speech for everyone except when people say things they don't like, or something they don't agree with. Hypocritical assholes. Are they going to make up the loss of revenue by enforcing new regulations?

Society eats junk food and then is lazier than ever and someone has to point a finger to blame at someone, so I guess the TV stations should pay for it, right?

A bright idea you have there.

Huber, the problem as I see it is that smokers are selfish. They want to go anywhere they please and smoke. Also, non-smokers are selfish. They don't want to have to smell smoke anywhere they go.

Throughout all this crap the bar owners get forgotten.

Also of course you'll find stuff like that on pro smoking sites. You'll find the opposite on anti-smoking sites.

There's no middle ground here, unfortunately.

Also, as far as second hand smoke goes, I just looked up a bunch of sites about secondhand smoking being a hoax. Half of them were hardcore pro-smoking sites, and all of them said that the studies prove there is little to no chance of someone getting lung cancer from passive smoking. WOW! So I won't die from it! Gee thanks! I guess if we're looking at it that way, smokers won't die from me punching them in the face, so I should be allowed to do that as well.

--

Wrong. A documentary is a supposed to be an impartial look at something, allowing you to make an informed decision based on the arguements. The "expirement" is also supposed to be consistent, which Supersize me was not. Morgan was eating varied amounts of food and inconsistent. It was an opinion piece nothing more.

And like someone said below, are any of you honestly surprised that eating McShit for a week will do anything but worsen your condition?

There was a teacher at a local college here in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada who ate nothing but McDonalds for a month and lost weight and lowered his cholesterol. Because he ate less calories than Morgan did, and added excersise into it.

Seriously, is any of this new information for you retards? Put down the double quarter pounder and do a chin up.

With all due respect Huber, there's actually a lot about second hand smoke people don't know about, and at this early stage we can't tell for sure if it is actually poisonous. That may sound like the dumbest statement of the century, but there have been studies proving it is a hoax.

As for smoking...I gave it up to chew tobacco when they 'banned' smoking in my city. It works out nicely.

You know what's funny, is when I joined in October I could write a post slightly worse than this and get a 1.2+.

Are people are that this site getting dumber? I mean, come on, second hand fat?

You seem like a nice guy so I'm not going to say anything nasty to you. Good night.

yeeaaa.....see the difference between smoking and obesity: There's no such thing as second hand fat.

I could give a rats ass if some fatty has to eat mcdonalds three times a week, doesnt bother me. But when some asshole lights up and blows smoke in my face, then it becomes my problem too.

Some guy ate nothing but McDonalds for a month and got fat. There's a surprise here somewhere, right?

Why, oh why, does this post have a positive rating?

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sorry Joemama I take it back. You ARENT the dumbest poster of all time.

This idiot is.

Here's a tip to this domenad asshole.

READ MY FUCKING POST.

It has a positive rating because it was written well and was making a point about fast food advertising to children.

Now take your pills and go to bed. While you're at it, do us all a favour and enjoy a bout of vodka while you're at it.

At some point people are going to have to take responsibility
for themselves and their children(if they have them), concerning
what they "ingest", rather than have someone else legislate "it"

Damn, that is a long sentence.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

OMFG.

Are you the dumbest poster here?

Yep.

My point was that they seem to be picking on tobacco companies and ignoring other issues at hand. Learn to read more than the title. I'm not saying they should legislate either, but Christ did you miss the point.

good post.

_________

I can see how he'd confuse the two, as Michael Moore is a man "in his late twenties" and "in excellent shape".

I suppose I could've explained myself better, but as as I said, I've been drinking.

My apologies to the author, it's not as though I disagreed with you.

Clarity is something I seem to be lacking lately.

"Anybody see the movie 'Supersize Me'? It was a documentary where a man, maybe in his late twenties and in excellent shape decided to eat nothing but McDonald's for 30 days straight. The problems that he encountered with regards to his body were unbelievable. He gained over a pound a day, not to mention encountered plenty of various physical and mental health problems. It's a movie I would urge everyone to see, it exposes McDonald's for being the cancer causing agent that it really is and confirms what everyone believes about the fast food giant."
