The Fickle Muse
She never asks permission to demand
Of me that I accept her grudging ware;
Instead, to make my pen my soul to bare,
She forces all her powers to my hand.
Unbidden be our troth; I had not planned
To leave behind the love of earthly care
At her bequest to speak of my despair
In honeyed words that leave me thus unmanned.
While inner demons' scales are thick and rough,
A warrior's hide must be of surer stuff:
To stand the burning torture of her charms,
And lay aside my chipped and broken swords.
And seek instead a quest of darker harms,
To battle my heart's demons with her words.

To top it all off, you could come back tomorrow and tear everyone apart in the poetry contest we're having.

If this is me, I'm wasting an awful lot of time emailing back and forth to myself, and I have real emotional problems.
....No, it's not me.

It would be a minus 2, but at least you didn't ruin the "getting my ass kicked" series by putting that in the title.

What the hell. +2 for you. And for Circe. And... awww fuck it, I'm going to go kill a small bunny and burn it in celebration of Circe's upcoming nuptuials.

Nicely done, Bickerstaff.
This is, however, an English sonnet (not Italian). Trifling detail.
