There is nothing left. Maria is dead. My siblings and other immediate family are somewhere, in the world, living their lives without me. My second wife is happily re-married. My step-father is gone, from some form of skin cancer.
I am alone.
And so my life fades.
But there is one constant.
The Pink Flamingo.
The Pink Flamingo was there when I moved to Mexico. The Pink Flamingo was there, when I graduated college. The Pink Flamingo was there, safe and snug at home, when I went to war. The Pink Flamingo shed soft light on me when I cried for Maria, those lonely nights. The Pink Flamingo attended my second wedding.
The Pink Flamingo has endured with me.
Through the O.J. Simpson trial. Through 9/11. Through divorce, death, destruction.
Through thick and thin, Ralph, The Pink Flamingo was, has, and always will be a part of me, and my tenure on earth.
The Pink Flamingo even survived my car crash with me. Good thing I had him buckled in, tight and cozy, in the back seat.
Thank you Pink Flamingo. You have been a lighthouse to my lost ship, a beacon in a world of darkness.
