In a land of eternal summer, in some sun-shot attic, there's a snow globe.
Inside is a lovely ballerina, poised and bolted in a delicate dance.
A boy lives in the house. He is innocent and loving, and a little afraid. The ballerina is his.
He never tires of shaking her small world. He pretends that the snow is snow, and the glitter her dreams. If any sparkles land in her reaching, gesturing hand, he cheers for her, and is happy.
And he knows, if he smashed the glass, she'd be real, and life-sized, and play with him.
But he also knows that some of her world would come with her.
He knows how cold snow is, how blinding and unreachable dreams could be. He knows that the brief flood of water, as her world joins his, might dampen his favorite t-shirt. The one he wears every day.
He doesn't want a winter season.
So trapped in snowflakes and light, she dances.
He watches, fascinated by her body and beauty, trying to avoid porcelain pleading eyes.
He grows, as boys do, and forgets her. He finds purpose in his world
and never visits the attic much anymore.
Her world is still, her dreams around her on the floor. And she waits, hoping that the man who could bear winter will return.
