I'm Catholic, but I'm also pretty damn secular. He was a good guy and it's a bummer he had to go. The next pope is going to have a hard time filling his shoes.

That's just funny...
It just sucks that anyone had to live in as much pain and misery as he did these last few months. I swear he's actually been dead for the last year, but just wouldn't fall over. That's some motherfuckin' faith. Generally, I hate Christians of all kinds, but the pope wasn't a dangerous guy. I could dig him. I'm more worried about the next one they elect...

The guy never did me any wrong, and even if I think his beliefs are retarded, I think he generally tried to be a good leader and role model. Plus, if the Pope followed the rules, that means he never made love, which makes his death an utter tragedy in a whole other category.

I'm a Catholic, but not a practicing one. This man was one of the reasons why I did not feel as though I should sever completely from the Church. I'm not a Bible freak, but I truly believe that he lived his life the way that Catholics are called to live it.
No matter who you are, his respect for life is a testament to us all. If we all had a sliver of his integrity, the world would be a much better place.

Actually the Catholic church doesn't screw up nearly as many lives as some of these fundamentalist Protestant denominations.
There's even one Pentecostal sect that lets rattlesnakes and copperheads bite them to prove that they are protected and favored by God. So much not putting the Lord, you God, to the test.

I hate the Catholic church, and they way they have twisted so many lives. I also hate the fact that the Vatican is one rich motherfucking entity, and the Pope walked around wearing jewels and gold threads when, if you believe historical sources, the guy who started the whole thing rolling wandered from place to place and accumilated no wealth we know of.
Having said that, this old Polack was a pretty decent guy, especially when compared to Popes of the past who enabled inquisitions, fathered children, and used convents as their own personal whorehouses.
Here's hoping for the next guy is as enlightened, considering the mindset he will be coming from.

My opinion is this- as deep as my hate for some catholics goes... I have to admit, Pope John Paul II did alot for them. However, it's not like anyone can't proverbially "fill his shoes." That's bullshit. The pope is the pope. They'll die too, and the same thing will be said over and over. It's no big deal. Whoever they get will serve his purpose and do his job. It's not like the end of the world will come over some guy's death.
