Ok, this is probaly the only post that will have ever been rightly admitted into the comedy category without actually being funny in any way. I am waiting for my food to cook. It's 11:30 PM CST. I have no fucking clue what I'm doing eating at this hour... Probably the same thing anyone of my generation is doing eating at this ungodly hour: trying vainly to shuck the habit of acting like a stoner even though your time has pretty much passed.
"What to do while waiting for a pot pie to cook???" I thought. "How about post on ubersite???"
Now there's an idea! But what shall I post? Everyone's so tired. They don't want to read, surely!
"Post crap, dude, they won't know the difference will they? Even if they do, surely you don't give a shit."
This is true. I honestly don't think they give a shit either.
I KNOW! I'll post my list of favorite comics. Seeing as Mitch Hepberg was on my list, and he just passed away, it might be interesting to see how many others are dead and how many are still alive.
1: Eddie Izzard
2: Bill Hicks
3: Mitch Hepberg
4: Steven Wright
5: Jack Handy (not standup, but still a favorite)
6: Richard Prior
7: Rita Rudner
8: George Carlin
9: Redd Foxx
10: Dave Chappelle
Honorable Mentions:
11: Carrot Top*
12: Gallagher**
13: Pauly Shore***
*you believe me, right?
**next time I feel like being pelted with fruit seeds, maybe
***no fuckin' way buuuuudy
What are your favorites?

HOLY SHIT!!!!!!
After much searching, I found my first review. Actually, I didn't search much, I had just been thinking about it since I last saw method's "a list everyone has made." I'm on there, but my stats are empty except for ONE review. I got curious and searched for about 5 minutes before I got distracted. In a haze caused partly by illegal substances last night, for some unknown reason, probably because I was watching "Bill Hicks: Live at the Dominion Theatre," I remembered this post and checked to see if it was it. I was right.
You get a very, very trivial +2 for writing the post that illicited my first review.

I don't know... I'd have to say...
1. Bill Hicks
2. George Carlin (In his youth, of course)
3. Lenny Bruce
4. Eddie Izzard
5. Mitch Hedberg
6. Richard Pryor
7. Dane Cook
8. Lewis Black
9. Stephen Lynch
10. Sam Kinison
Of course, this list is always changing, but that looks good right now.
Chris Rock was at the bottom half of this list until I saw "Never Scared," his most recent HBO special. That was ridiculous. I guess being named Entertainment Weekly's "Funniest Man Alive" went to his head.
"Blue Collar" Comics-- Ok, sure whatever. If you find simplicity that amusing, you are all sorts of fucked up.
Am I the only one who doesn't think that Andrew Dice Clay is funny?
Seinfeld's not bad, but you just eventually get to the point where you're just like, "Yeah whatever, Jerry. Who gives a shit about the police 'chalk outline guy'"
Richard Jeni deserved honorable mention until his most recent HBO special. The material wasn't what did it to him either. It was his vanity. Any man who wears a shirt that tight with as much makeup (bad plastic surgery) as he was loses my respect.
Dangerfield belongs on the list, but doing that would be respecting him, and everyone knows that Rodney never gets no respect.
I have the feeling that I'm forgetting someone, but I don't care. They're obviously not that good if I can forget them that quickly.

Woo there nelly. I just been perusing some reviews, checking out opinions etc.
I gotta tell ya, you're wrong about Eddie.
We agree he's f'ing funny.
But his shows ARE meticulously planned. He works on them until he's got it perfected, then starts working on a new act.
-----------
HE does work on his material, and he does have planning. I am not saying he just goes up there empty handed. I'm not that naive. What I AM saying is he doesn't plan out every second of his show. If he goes on a tangent, he just persues it to see where it leads. Many comics are completely scripted and lack the element of spontaneity that makes things funny to our human sensibilities. Watch his performances in the extras of any of his DVD's. Watch the interviews in them. You'll see and hear many of the same bits with all new parts and completely rearranged. You'll also hear some things you've never heard from him in the show itself, that's because it was a complete tangent and was off-the-cuff. You can tell by watching him onstage that he is, himself, getting amused by much of what he's saying; that's because it's new to him too.

I get shit for it all the time, but I like Jeff Foxworthy. Ron White and Bill Engvall are hilarious. Lewis Black is probably my favorite recent comic, aside from Mitch Hedberg.

I will defend my choice of Izzard as my #1.
Eddie Izzard's comedy comes off his his entire body unscripted. Everything feels so spontaneous becuase he hasn't planned out jokes. He leaves himself free to explore the wackiness of his own mind. Kinda like a surrealistic, free-form comedy jazz...except he's English. And everyone knows those people talk funny to begin with. I forgot where this was going now... Oh yea, Eddie Izzard. He doesn't tell 'jokes' in the traditional sense. His comedy is bigger, more encompassing than that. Sure, he's not fighting the social structure at large like a Bill Hicks or a Lenny Bruce; he's not gonna shock old ladies like a George Carlin or a Richard Pryor, but what he will do is make you piss your fucking pants laughing at the peculiar mating rituals of salmon.

i used to like jeni. but i lost the love during his last stand-up special. he was wearing some shirt to accentuate his new muss-culls, and kept having to readjust after he'd raise and arm or take a step. only girls should wear shirts like that.
also, i awear to god he has had plastic surgery. comedians should not get plastic surgery. if anything, they should get hit with 2 x 4s to make them uglier. ugly is funny.

Eddie Izzard...is there even a way to describe his humor?
Hitler was a vegetarian and an artist so one day he must have been like, "I cannot get ze trees....DAMN! I will kill EVERYONE IN THE WORLD!"
The Dutch speak all kinds of languages and they smoke dope! How do they have time? And we officially don't, and dope is illegal here. It's weird, 'cause when you go to Holland they're all like, "No, I don't need to, I live here, man." But when a British person goes it's like
"fuckin'elllaaaaaaaaaaiieeeeeeeee!!"
"How long you been here, man?"
"A minute!"
"Have you seen the canals?"
"I AM a canal!"
It's British transvestite fucking weird humor is what it is. And amazing!

Eddie Izzard is hot in or out of drag.
Rita Rudner is there instead of Denis Leary? Oh come on now old chap.
I guess I've finally found a man who is a fan of Hicks (HE should have been Pope, the book according to Bill) but not a fan of Leary.
Also, Gallager ruled all over the place.

Well you're a fucking idiot. Even if he didn't get the 'd' right, that's no reason to go four ratings down.

I dislike hip-hop, but I found this site when I was randomly surfing the net...
Personally, I think Lindsay Lohan is a skank slutty ass ugly bitch (she wears like 10 tons of makeup). But this freestyle thing was hilarious and figured I'd share with ya:

Hedburg is not that funny. And it is apparent you're a young fellow, considering your top ten list has very few of the legendary greats.

Wasn't Eddy Murphy OK as a standup way back when? Or how about Andrew "dice man" Clay?
Kevin Meany was pretty funny, and as for clean acts...Cosby and Sinbad can have their moments.
I'm not into too much "favorites" because Carlin today is a shadow of his former self, and other greats have tainted their names as well... Some have died fairly young as well. I do know one thing though....Women comedians just are not funny. Why the hell is that?

Chappelle shouldn't be on any best comic list. Rock is ten times the comic he'll ever be, but of course black stand-up really has no place to go other than racially.
Dane Cook is my only real favorite at the moment.
