i just wanted to let everyone who reads this post know that i hate taxes.

i do not hate paying taxes, i hate doing them. i don't mind that the government takes 50% of my paycheck, and i don't really care that despite them taking half of what i make they still need more at the end of the year, and i don't mind that they raise the prices of gasoline to pay for a war nor that my stocks are taxed twice.

i just hate getting the tax form, using my pen on it, making a mistake, having to go buy whiteout or pick up a new book, making more mistakes, running out of whiteout because i sniffed the remainder of the bottle without realizing it, deciding i need to use turbo tax instead, borrowing it from my neighbor, waiting 50 minutes for the latest patch to mess up my computer, surfing the internet to find loop holes in the law, coming up with new and creative ways to hide bonuses and other monies earned, finishing my taxes but seeing that it calculates a return at %300 more than what i made, doing it again only less creative, the whole 'do i want to give a dollar' to some fund thing, going through remorse about not hiring someone in time to do my taxes yet again, blah blah...

it creates a huge amount of stress for me because i don't do well with nit picking money at all. i like to make it and pile it up underneath me so i have a place to dance and make maniacal laughs, but when i have to count pennies my shoulders get tense and it's hard to do anything other than think about going on a 6 day drinking binge.

so for the next few days i'll prolly still post here, but it may sound like i hate you when i really don't, or least might not. i just need to vent some, so if your posts are stupid or are about things like flowers and bunny rabbits i'm going to virtually hack your head apart with blunt objects so i can let off a little steam.

capice?

Hey Loki, I'm an accountant too, although I only finished my exams in Feb and am still waiting for my membership to be approved. My qualification (ACCA) is seen as a bit lower in certain accountancy circles (i.e. CPA is the equivalent of our CA's) but I hate all that financial snobbery.

I don't have any tax experience apart from what I learnt in the exams but I've found you pick most of it up on the job.

So do you specialise in tax or another area?

thanks t,

i guess i misunderstood. i thought maybe there was a turbotaxesque website somewhere, and if there was i could just do my taxes while i'm here rather than having to do them tonight at 3am when i get home.

i definetly e-file them.

please thank your pops.

You also can't install Turbo Tax on more than one computer so Hidden, you may be screwed here.

I asked my dad and this is what he said:

Yes Sweetie. First, when you say "Taxes are done on-line," that requires
some clarification. Normally, taxes are first prepared off-line, via some
tax preparation software. The one that I use is "TurboTax." TurboTax steps
you through the preparation process, via a series of screens that ask
questions and require you to respond by posting information, such as the
amount from your W-2 statements that show how much your employer paid you,
into data-fields. After all of the relevant fields are filled in, and thus
your tax statement is completed, you are asked if you want to send the tax
return to the IRS on-line. A yes answer (along with some additional
information, such as credit card number to pay the sending fee -- about $14
for both federal and state combined) brings up your internet service
provider log-in screen (MSN -- the "butterfly" -- in our case). Once you
connect, the taxes are sent via the magic of the internet.

Hope this helps. :)

i bought TurboTax so that i could charge other people to do their taxes for them. EH used it, but i haven't yet. he said it was quick and easy, and it gets e-filed, so there's no hassle and you get a quick return.

http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-fill/f1040.pdf

If that won't, go to www.irs.gov and type 1040 in the search engine. The ones called fill in forms can be typed online and printed.

People PEOPLE have I or have I not been bitching about being a CPA on this site?

Most of the states have fill in forms on their Dept. of Revenue sites too.

I did a return just last week for some people who have been paying taxes on their gross income. There may have been a language barrier there, but they were stunned when I told them that they were getting a refund and now I look like a genius.

Let me know if you have specific questions, you have oh let's see ONE DAY LEFT!

How is it that the government takes 50% of you paycheck? All totaled, the US, New York State, and the City of New York only get about 25% of my check, and I still get a killer refund from the feds.

Also, I have my accountant do my taxes. I wouldn't trust H&R Block. They're good, I guess, but not as good as having a personal relationship with somebody who will use all his skills to find you every possible loophole and deduction.

I did my taxes myself last year and got only $250.00 back. My accountant did them this year, and I got $1400.

There's a solution to all this. It's called H&R Block.

Whenever I think about them, I picture the guy from JackAss ripping off his jump suit and dancing with his bowtie and g-string in front of someone...

I sure as hell do. Thats my money, damnit, that I work like a dog for. The government should find some other way to fund their save the cockatoo program.
