I'm going to be spending a good deal of time in Georgia because of Officer Basic and Ranger school, and then posting to Ft. Polk in Louisiana (well, once I come back from Afghanistan). What do you all have to say about these areas...know of any good places to go to in either one?

+2 because if you're doing ranger training... you're going to Benning... and i have a grudge against that place. Also, Georgia is the most humid, sweaty fucking place in the world in the summer.

I'm stateside right now, I said once I come back from Afghanistan because I go straight from Ranger school to Afghanistan, after a couple weeks off. I don't get to see my base, I deploy first. Sorry for the confusion.

If you were anywhere near Atlanta, I can tell you where to go, but I'm useless outside of my bubble here. Regardless, if you do make it up to Atlanta, avoid Buckhead like the plague. Decatur is a cool part of town, and there are various bars (Brick Store) that are fun in a centralized area. A little quieter than the rest of the city, but fun, nevertheless. For the best place with pool, go to Twain's in Decatur. For dancing, check out MJQ in Midtown, but only if you can handle different sorts of people. Club 150 is fun sometimes - they've got techno on Friday nights. Also, check out virginia highlands for the biggest yuppie meat market in town - lots of bars, lots of pretty rich white people. A good coffee shop is Java Monkey in Decatur - probably has the best atmosphere for that sort of thing in the city. Downtown, the Mark is a good bar. If you want restaurants in Atlanta, that's a whole other post... (If you can't tell, I like to go out.)

I've been going through an academy for the past 4 years, I don't have motomail yet. I'm getting my commission in less than two months. I'm going to the new brigade combat team (4th Brigade, 10th Mountain) and I'm meeting my new platoon in Afghanistan. I'm branched infantry, so I'll be deployed almost all my time. Have you ever starved for 5 days because resupply got jacked up? Bare in mind that this was during Robin Sage and we were going on some long fucking missions. I'll be getting shot at quite a lot between Iraq and Afghanistan. I post on Uber in between classes when I actually have some time off. Now, with that being said, I don't want to hear anymore shit from you. After that smack you just talked, I prey you were a grunt.
PS Jump school is a joke now, don't even get me started.

"If" this is a True story...you will be so fucking busy you wont want to go out...
Maybe a beer (on post) I went to Jump school in the 80's and it was a ball buster,
run in the morming and in the afternoon and at night..i lost 30 lbs. and got down to 8% body fat.
However your probaly a kid whos 22 and plays video games.

I hear Kabul is like Vegas....they have a goat in a grass skirt with christmas lights wrapped around it, and if you shell out a few bucks, you can catch a glimpse of an ankle (not the goat's). Demure. Allure. Manure.

Good luck with training and Afghanistan and all that...
Fun things to do in GA:
1. Braves baseball (http://www.atlantabraves.com) Turner Field is awesome, even if the Braves do kind of suck.
2. Six Flags over Georgia - west of Atlanta on I-20. White-trash heaven.
3. UGA Football (September thru November) Tailgating is a lot of fun. Tickets to the games are hard to get beforehand, but on gamedays there are always people walking around selling them. Depending on how big of a game it is, you will pay between $25 and $100 for a ticket. http://www.uga.edu
4. Athens nightlife - UGA college sluts galore
5. Atlanta nightlife - Don't forget your flak jacket (people get shot semi-frequently in Buckhead)
6. Stone Mountain Laser Show - summer only
7. Savannah - beautiful historic city, located in a swamp so the weather sucks ass

Does SOCOM III have graphics THAT good? That's crazy if it does. But no, that's a photo of me during some training a couple summers ago.
And Kristen, I don't know exactly when I'll get to Polk, it all depends on when I get my Ranger school slot. Were your roommates good roommates? Gorgeous is all well and good but if their feet smell...

Ohm hell yeah!
I lived in Leesville, LA for 4 years! That's the little city Fort Polk is situated within. It sucks. You're going to HATE it. You have to drive an hour to get anywhere halfway decent...and they're only HALFWAY decent. Plus, Louisiana as a whole smells like butt.
I have a house there and if ya wanna rent it, you can. :o) You'd have to share with a couple of my gorgeous friends, though. Not too huge of a sacrifice.
Let's see, as far as food goes...Wagonmaster has kickass rolls and can make a decent burger. Spirits West flat out sucks. Faustos is a Mexican restaurant in DeRidder, about 15 minutes away from Leesville, and they are soooooo freakin' good. Otherwise, it's fast food for ya.
Nightlife...Las Margaritas (Las Mas) is pretty cool. They have a good bar, reasonably priced drinks, a big dance floor, and good music. They also have a patio with TV's set up where you can go to get away from the huge crowd, watch the game, etc. The downside is, they let 18 and up in, (although only 21 and up can drink, obviously) so the crowd can sometimes include some young 'uns and sometimes there are fights there. Paradise is another club, only 21 and up can get in, but it's smaller and a little more...ghetto. They only play rap music, so if that's your thing...oh, and you get patted down and wanded before you can go in. Sugar Shack is a country bar, they have live bands on the weekend and karaoke on Wednesday nights. There's a good mix there, agewise. There's Frozen Spirits, which I liked going to during the week because they have about 20 pool tables-fun during the week, but not cool when you feel like dancin' on the weekends!
