I believe every person has both good and evil in them. I believe that everything a person does, every choice they make, is based on an inner battle between each extreme. I believe that success of good is based halfway on that person's history and experiences and halfway on that person's personal strength. I believe the purpose of life is to defeat the evil.

I believe that the Earth is a gift, not a commodity. It is something to enjoy and care for, not something to use. I believe every natural resource on this planet should be used carefully and gratefully. I believe abuse of the planet is a terrible crime.

I believe that humankind is part of a global community, and we are all our brothers' keepers.

I believe that every child born is precious and deserving of love and dedicated care. I believe that in the event that a child is not recieving those things from their parents for whatever reason, it is the responsibility of the community around them to provide it.

I believe every person deserves to be heard and understood. I believe every soul has worth and should be loved and respected.

I do not believe it is possible to love too much.

I do believe it is possible to trust too much, but that far too many people err on the side of trusting too little.

I believe that being hurt is unavoidable and necessary to grow as a person.

I believe in a creator-God. I believe that having faith does not require one to disbelieve science. I do not know what method God used to put us here, but I believe He is responsible and He did it for a reason.

I believe everyone has a purpose.

I believe in true love. I do not know if there is truly ONLY ONE person out there for everybody, but I believe that there is AT LEAST one person out there with whom each person can find joy and love that can last until death parts them.

I do not believe death is really the end.

I believe that indifference is a poison and should be avoided at all costs. I believe standing idly by while evil of some kind is committed is worse than the evil itself.

I believe that one second of romance is worth the hours of crying that may come later.

I believe that every emotion has worth and should be felt deeply and unabashedly. I believe that it is dangerous to deny your feelings. I believe it is dangerous to hide them from others.

I believe that regret is not a waste of time. I believe it is the natural consequence of bad choices and should be experienced and dealt with, and used as a reminder next time a similar choice presents itself. However, I believe that a person can get overwhelmed and sucked into a prison of regret, and that is nearly as bad as not having regret at all.

I believe that forgiveness should be free. I believe that grudges hurt the person holding them. I believe all wrongs are equal, and everyone is guilty of at least one, so no one has the right to judge anyone else.

I do not believe that one must understand something in order to accept it.

I believe that humans are different than animals, and that survival of the fittest should not apply to us.

I believe it is the ability and conviction to care for those weaker than us that makes us good.

I believe that above all, each breath should be drawn with a thank you, each moment should be lived to the fullest, and a day should not go by without telling the people you care about how much they mean to you.

#1 'I believe' = Bull Durham
#2 =

I don't believe in superstars,
Organic food and foreign cars.
I don't believe the price of gold;
The certainty of growing old.
That right is right and left is wrong,
That north and south can't get along.
That east is east and west is west.
And being first is always best.

But I believe in love.
I believe in babies.
I believe in Mom and Dad.
And I believe in you.

Well, I don't believe that heaven waits,
For only those who congregate.
I like to think of God as love:
He's down below, He's up above.
He's watching people everywhere.
He knows who does and doesn't care.
And I'm an ordinary man,
Sometimes I wonder who I am.

But I believe in love.
I believe in music.
I believe in magic.
And I believe in you.

Well, I know with all my certainty,
What's going on with you and me,
Is a good thing.
It's true, I believe in you.

I don't believe virginity,
Is as common as it used to be.
In working days and sleeping nights,
That black is black and white is white.
That Superman and Robin Hood,
Are still alive in Hollywood.
That gasoline's in short supply,
The rising cost of getting by.

But I believe in love.
I believe in old folks.
I believe in children.
I believe in you.

But I believe in love.
I believe in babies.
I believe in Mom and Dad.
And I believe in you.

I found it really difficult to put into words what I believe, but mostly because everything I though of I questioned profusely. "Do I really believe this? Do I live like I believe it?" I came to the conclusion (one that is probably painfully obvious to everyone else) that nobody lives up to 100% of their beliefs 100% of the time, but that doesn't mean they don't believe it, and that made it easier. I can believe that something is true, even if I can recall events and moments when I didn't act like it was true.

I forget who commented on the people are different than animals thing, but I didn't deny that people are animals... though in retrospect perhaps the phrase should have read "people are different than OTHER animals". Human beings obviously do fall into a genus and species just like every other animal, but I think that the parts about having good and evil in us, the parts about us having the choice between the two, the duty we have to care for those weaker.... ect ect ect... those things make us different.

+2 For Aley Grey - he is one of my favorites
-2 for this:

I believe that humans are different than animals, and that survival of the fittest should not apply to us.

Kingdom: Animalia Phylum: Chordata Subphylum: Vertebrata Class: Mammalia Order: Primates Family: Hominidae Species: Homo sapiens

Removing us from the animal kingdom is egocentric and dangerous. This is why our planet is dying the way it is, because we seperate ourselve from it. This suprises me see how your seemingly strongest beliefs are the sacredness of the planet.

+1 for the rest of them. I like your philosophies. Well, except the god thing, but to each their own.

fabulous

Was it hard or easy? I think when I started out, I had a few random thoughts that got me started, but then I had trouble figuring out how to form the thoughts into words. Then I thought, this is all sounding corny, then I realized that maybe I am kind of corny so fuck it.

Aha! Linguistics! Someone has been paying attention! Don't you love how the only infixes that exist in English are vulgar?!?! It borders on ri-goddamn-diculous!

I think being a little over 100 words off isn't that bad considering I estimated by how long it looked and not by actually counting...

Besides, I'm not submitting this to NPR, just to Uber, so gives a flying fuck how many words it is?

I believe in the whole feeling things, even if it could be bad... but maybe I'll stop doing that, to make things a little easier.

But that's a bad idea, right...?

The thing I like about uber is that it allows me to be a bit of a veuyer (WOAH how do you spell that?) voyer? huh? Anyway... I like that.

You're a good person, Dori. Even if you're nutty sometimes.

50 years ago Edward R Murrow began a project called "This I Believe" to encourage people from all walks of life to submit their personal philosophies in 500 words or less. NPR is reviving this project. I think it would be interesting to see what überfolk would come up.

Your word count? 635

Way to read the rules
