Three miles up snow laden glades lies Tuckermans Ravine, Mt Washington, where fellow maniacs carry snowboards, sleds and skis up into the bowl to experience the hairest winter rec in the east, or join the ever increasing mountain death toll. I also think it would make a great boob mold for a mile high clay woman.

automatic +2 for talking good 'bout New Hampshire. I haven't been up to Washington in a few years, mostly because the last time I went up there I got so damn dissapointed at the fact that I busted my ass to get up the face of Tuckerman's (no easy task) to find goddamn blue hairs in wheeled walkers sipping tea from styrofoam mugs. I hate the fucking parking lot. i just forgot how much.
I was hiking in August and there were sustained winds of 50-75 mph and we got 8+ inches of snow. WTF?

it is a little less than three miles to reach the bowl from the base lodge. It took about two hours to reach the point in the photo, once you hit the base of the bowl, you strip your pack, and lug you skis/whatever, as high up as you feel. When it is this early in the year, the entire mountain is covered in snow, so you can pretty much ski all the way down to the base lodge. 2 hours up, 25 min down.

pretty sweet. I'll have to venture out there one time

Man its been forever, I dont recall madison. My grandfather directs/acts in the summer stock theater in Tamworth, my family occasionally travels there and stays in some old house near the Tamworth Inn. My parents are avid hikers, so they would often take me up some of the nearby mountains like Passaconaway, Whiteface, Chocorua. This summer will be the first time in at least six years, I cant wait for the barbeque. Thanks for the flood of memories.

Maybe 6 summers ago I did huntington ravine after tuckerman got boring. You ought to try it if you havent yet. Then again this was hiking in the summer, which isnt quite the same. Word on the white mountains, I cant wait to get back into tamworth/chocorua this summer. Where are you staying?
------
Rurumon, we were staying in Madison, right next to tamworth. I don't think I have been up Huntingtons Ravine yet, Just tucks, Lions head, and some other shitty trail which I can't remember its name, where, while summer hiking, past the tree line the trail kinda petered off near the auto road, and we walked up that the rest of the way.
